Byrne finds it hard to bear

Sunday, 20th Oct 2013

"We are creating every week, it is just the final ball or the finishing touch just doesn't seem to be going for us.

Shaun Byrne

Shaun Byrne found it hard to believe that East Fife had inflicted a defeat on Dunfermline. Speaking exclusively to the website after picking up his Man of the Match Award, Shaun felt that the bottle was poor consolation for losing 2-1:-

"We dominated the game but just had a crazy ten minute spell at the end. As long as it is 1-0 there is always the chance of East Fife nicking a point or even a win. We just never finished the game off, that has been the story of our season really."

Shaun Byrne

There were plenty of opportunities but Shaun continued:-

"We are creating every week, it is just the final ball or the finishing touch just doesn't seem to be going for us.

"At half time we were told to keep on our toes and play like how we played in the first half. We pegged them back and they never really got in our half.

Shaun Byrne

"We sat back in the second half a wee bit too much instead of pressing the game like we did in the first half. Obviously they nicked a goal and the momentum was with them. East Fife realised that they were lucky to get the first but then they went on and took a victory which is even worse."

Shaun Byrne

The 20 year old made his 32nd appearance for the Pars on Saturday but for the Kirkcaldy born boy who lives in the east of Fife he is doubly disappointed that the result didn't go the way of his team:-

"A few mates play in the team, including the captain. I stay near most of the fans so I will be getting a few uncomfortable messages from them. It is all part of the game. We just have to pick our heads up and go into next week's game."

Shaun Byrne Man of the Match

Next Saturday Dunfermline take the 250 mile round trip to Stranraer, the most southerly league club in the Scottish football, before cup duty takes them 161 miles north from Dunfermline to Elgin City, the most northerly club in the Scottish League. It was no understatement when Shaun added:-

"We have a few long journeys, we went to Stranraer with Hamish French in the under 19s and that was quite a journey. Elgin is even further but we just have to get on with it and try and pick up victories."
