Buchanan's happy return

Monday, 21st Oct 2013

"We knew that it was going to be a hard place to come but for the last fifteen minutes the gaffer stuck on a couple more strikers and we got our rewards."

Liam Buchanan

It was only September last year when Liam Buchanan left Dunfermline but much has happened to both him and his former club in the intervening months. Now 24, Liam went to Sligo Rovers and then returned to Ayr United where he played 14 matches last season. Saturday's match against Dunfermline was his twelfth for East Fife and his late winner was his sixth. He told the media post match:-

"It was a great team performance, I thought we kept our shape really well. We knew that it was going to be a hard place to come but for the last fifteen minutes the gaffer stuck on a couple more strikers and we got our rewards."

Liam believed that a winner was possible after the 81st minute equaliser:-

"Once you get a goal late on when we have had a lot of possession of the ball, seeing the equaliser going in can deflate them a little. We pushed forward to get the winner. I just took a touch and saw the keeper stepping forward a little so I just tried to curl it in. It was just a touch and shot, thankfully it went in.

Liam Buchanan

"It was a good derby with tackles flying in. There were not a lot of bad tackles so there was a good tempo to the game and a good atmosphere at the match with the East Fife fans getting right behind us.

"The league is very tight and if you don't take your chances then you are not going to win matches. It is good that we have come to a hard place like East End and managed to get the three points."

Liam Buchanan

The former Pars striker smiled when it was suggested that he likes scoring against Dunfermline:-

"It is always nice to come back and it was a nice sweet touch to get the goal. It is nice to see that there is still a club here because there were a lot of worried times about them being here. It is great to see so many fans here as well."
