Imposing defender will play for the badge

Dunfermline Athletic have moved to ease their defensive injury concerns by securing towering centre-back Malachi Fagan-Walcott on loan from Cardiff City until the end of the season.

The 6’2″ defender was delighted to return north of the border, having previously enjoyed a stint at Dundee in 2021 under current Pars manager James McPake.

“I am very happy, I feel like it is a good opportunity to get my name out there and help the team,” said Fagan-Walcott.

The team has been struck by injuries in recent weeks, but the imposing 21-year-old hopes to strengthen the backline.

“I have heard about all the injuries but I feel that I can come and bring something to the team as a defender,” he claimed.  Fagan-Walcott was also pleased to link up with some familiar faces at East End Park:-

“When I got the call on Wednesday it was a no brainer. I just thought – I know the manager, I know the assistant manager and I know some of the players here so I felt comfortable with the move,” he explained.

The Cardiff City loanee made an immediate positive impression when joining his teammates in training on Friday. He outlined the key qualities he will bring to the Pars.

“On the ball I’m composed, calm and like to play. Defensively, heading, tackles and aggression I bring a lot of that,” said Fagan-Walcott. He also possesses rapid pace thanks to a background as a sprint champion.

His imposing presence and quick recovery pace helped put in performances that earned him England youth caps at Under 15, Under 16 and Under 17 levels. The central defender was highly rated coming through the youth ranks at Tottenham Hotspur, he was a regular in Spurs Under 18 and Under 23 teams before being handed his senior debut by Jose Mourinho in the Champions League. That match in the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig remains a career highlight to date.

“Everytime I think about it, every time I am asked about it, the pictures I have in my head, it was surreal. That was a while back now.”

Now Fagan-Walcott hopes to make memories in Fife and create a quick impression on the Dunfermline support. “When I heard about the fans I wanted to see and experience it for myself. I’m just excited to play for the badge,” he said.
