Dunfermline 2 Stoke City 2
Saturday, 3rd Aug 1996Pre Season Friendly: Andy Smith (5) 1-0: Beeson (24) 1-1: Den Bieman (87) 2-1: Macari 2-2
Dunfermline finished their pre-season on a high note with a better performance than the midweek game and ending the sequence of games undefeated.
Ian Westwater had to be lively in just the second minute when he made a fine save to tip over an early Stoke strike, but it was the Pars who took the lead in five minutes. It was Andy SMITH again after good work from new signing Gerry Britton.
An excellent strike from BEESON in 24 minutes levelled the scores and it remained that way until half time despite Dunfermline having a number of opportunities to regain the lead.
Half time: Dunfermline 1 Stoke City 1
In the second half, Dunfermline continued to take the game to their visitors and in 56 minutes Smith hit the post. Further chances fell to Andy Tod and Ryan Hegarty but it wasn`t all one way traffic. Five minutes from the end a cross by Sheron caused panic in the Pars defence before it could be cleared.
Dunfermline at last got the goal that their play had deserved in 87th minute when, after good work by Mark McCulloch, Ivo Den BIEMAN scored from the edge of the box.
Just as it looked like a winner, Stoke hit back to equalise through Michael MACARI.
