Dunfermline travelled to Ainslie Park to take on their Lowland League opponents Spartans. There were a few changes in the starting eleven as Stevie Crawford shuffled his pack. Aaron Comrie, Paul Watson, Miller Fenton, Paul Allan and Kyle Turner started this time but there would be a number of substitutions for the second half.

The hosts kicked off and Blair Carswell their keeper was deployed in the very first minute after Kevin O’Hara was put through and his shot was kept out with his feet and one of his defenders cleared.

Two minutes later Steven Whittaker sent O’Hara in on the left. He beat his man but the keeper again stopped his shot. Next Dom Thomas’ trickery won a free kick on the right. Trialist no.12 delivered the ball for Whittaker but his effort went over the bar.

The goal that was threatening came after just 12 minutes. A great run up the left by the Trialist set up a good low cross into the box that THOMAS met on the right side of the goal to shoot into the left side of the Spartans net, 0-1

The Fifers kept up the pressure, a Thomas free kick was held by the keeper and Tom Lang headed over the bar from a corner on the left. Another Thomas effort was blocked and when O’Hara latched on to the loose ball his shot was then parried away by Carswell. The opposition reminded everyone that they were there with a 28th minute shot over Cammy Gill’s bar before O’Hara had an attempt blocked after Trialist 12 had seen his effort saved by the keeper.

As half time closed in Dunfermline had two corners in quick succession. Thomas took them both finding Allan with the first but he fired over and then from the next Turner received the ball from Thomas and he too fired just over the crossbar.

Half time: Spartans 0 Dunfermline 1

Kerr McINROY signed on loan from Celtic on the day of the game replaced Kyle Turner at half time and the 20 year old was on the scoresheet within six minutes. 0-2

Whittaker continued to be a threat following up his earlier high shot and accepting the fruits of a Comrie / Thomas link up on the right to fire on target but the keeper held. Spartans Scott McCrory-Irvine tried a shot that just went wide right of Gill’s goal. Allan`s 58th minute shot was held before wholesale changes were made with Dunfermline making another nine changes. Allan remained on as all the remaining starting eleven were replaced.

Ben Swinton came on for Cammy Gill while Josh Edwards, Euan Murray, Trialist 9, Trialist 11, Lewis McCann, Matty Bowman, Thomas Bragg and Lucas Berry were all 60th minute subs.

McInroy sent another shot wide of goal and Bowman had a cross taken by the keeper before the Spartans Trialist 19 fired an effort over Swinton’s goal from an acute angle.

The third and final goal of the game was a fine left footed finish from 20 yards out. Again it was McINROY who was the scorer. 0-3

There was one final shot for Carswell to hold from Lucas Berry but it had been a good bit of game time for the players and in particular O’Hara and Thomas who looked especially sharp. What a great first 45 minutes for the latest signing Kerr McInroy, hopefully a sign of good things to come.
