Beadling is about! A Tom Beadling doubled separated the teams as the Pars reserves register a win over their Greenock counterparts

This Reserve Cup tie was postponed from the previous week and as a consequence Greg Shields starting eleven was probably stronger than it would have been had the weather not taken its toll. First team squad members Cammy Gill, Josh Edwards, Lewis Martin, Tom Beadling joined new signings Dylan Duncan and Scott Cusick for this match at New Central Park, Kelty on Tuesday afternoon.

Morton kicked off attacking the goal at the north end it was there that the first chances of the match came. A quickly taken free kick gave Jonathan Lyon a chance on the left side of the Pars box and Paul Brown had to close him out to concede a fourth minute corner. From the corner the visitors came close with Alex Easdale testing Gill but the keeper pulled off a great save.

At the other end Lewis McCann had an early effort that Chris Wylie held and then Beadling drove a tenth minute shot over the bar. Next a soaring run from a Edwards allowed him to cut back from the byeline and Gavin Watt turned the cross behind for a Pars corner on the left. When Cusick eventually netted he was in an offside position.

Cammy Graham sent a 30 yard free kick on target but Wylie tipped that over. Two corners ensued but with no effect.

Morton’s Michael Garrity was shown a yellow card on 20 minutes for going down in the box under challenge from Martin. Back at the other end McCann forced a throw on down by the right corner flag, Paul Brown took the throw in a Duncan clipped a great ball for McCann at the near post but his diving header sent the ball wide right.

The visitors popped a shot from distance that hit Gill’s crossbar on its way over but the Fifers were to be the first to open the scoring with a 29th minute goal. Edwards again made ground despite attempts to tug him back and from deep into the ‘Ton box he cut the ball back for BEADLING 25 yards out. He received on his right took a touch and fired a great left booted effort that bulged the left side of the net. 1-0

In the lead Dunfermline enjoyed great possession but Edwards was the nearest to creating another goal before being forced off the ball by Ben Eardley deep inside his own box.

Half time: Dunfermline 1 Morton 0

Both teams passed the ball about for the first ten minutes of the second half with no goalmouth incidents before a Duncan cross from a Cusick lay off nicely set up Graham in front of goal. He smashed his shot on target but a defender dived on to block his 57th minute effort.

Next minute as Morton failed to clear their box Dylan Duncan came close with an overhead kick from the edge of the six yard box that keeper Wylie beat away.

Lewis Sawers replaced Cammy Graham before with 65 minutes on the clock Miller Fenton made a good recovery to concede a corner on the left and when that was delivered Garrity drove the ball into the sidenetting.

Garrity was aggrieved when Brown stoke the ball away from him feeling that was twice he had been denied a penalty. But Morton were playing with composure with total belief that they could eventually make the breakthrough.

Shaun Rodgers was pulled up for offside while at the other end Beadling showed great close controls to round the Morton defence before Watt rather robustly dispossessed him. Josh Robertson was the second Pars sub of the match as he came on for Scott Cusick with fifteen minutes remaining.

Duncan made a good break to get a powerful shot in from the right side of the box. The referee deemed it had been deflected and a corner from the right followed. That changed nothing but the second Pars goal did on 79 minutes. Tom BEADLING was to score again accepting a pass in from the left from Duncan, advancing into the box and smashing the ball into the bottom right 2-0.

Dunfermline made three more subs and Morton two but there was not a lot else to report from the closing minutes. This was the reserves first win in five games and it was thoroughly deserved.

The sides will meet again when the Pars host Morton in the Reserve League on 17th March.
