SPFL Development League: Dylan Pooler (13) 0-1. Ross Davidson (69) 0-2

DUNFERMLINE 0 KILMARNOCK 2

Kilmarnock had most of the play in the early stages of this SPFL Development League match on Tuesday night. Pars keeper Ryan Goodfellow was called upon in third minute to block a shot from Daryl Westlake from Whittaker’s cross.

Killie duly took the lead ten minutes later through Dylan POOLER when he was on the end of a cross from the left, turned and shot into the right side of goal. New signing Sorel Chemin had a shot inside the box on the right and then a shot/lob went just wide of Mackay’s right hand post.

On the half an hour Goodfellow parried a shot from Aaron Splaine which went out to Whittaker on the right wing and his inviting cross went through the Pars box and out for a throw in. Killie were by far the dominant side and another chance looped into Goodfellow’s hands. When Whittle was fouled outside the box, Mercer took the free kick which Mackay fumbled under pressure from Potter, but quickly recovered.

Dunfermline had two corners in quick succession as half time approached but although the first was headed over the bar by a defender, the second was cleared out only to be returned into the box, but Drummond was offside.

Half time: Dunfermline 0 Kilmarnock 2

Dunfermline made two changes at half time when Jordan Orru and Scott Sutherland replaced Stuart Morrison and PJ Crossan (both taking knocks).

Kilmarnock resumed from where they had finished off in the first half. Just four minutes into the second half Goodfellow blocked a shot by Pooler which was subsequently cleared. The home did get some chances. In 54 minutes a cross from Chemin gave first McMillan and then McClair a shot at goal, with the latter’s attempt going for a corner.

McMillan had a shot from the corner which was blocked out. Chemin had a run with the ball on the right hand side and his cut along the byeline was blocked out. McMillan was then replaced with young Brandon Luke. Two minutes later Jordan Orru’s header from a Mercer corner went over before Ross Davidson scored Killie’s second goal. On 69 minutes he intercepted an attempted clearance from Chemin and made it 2-0 to the visitors.

When Chemin sent in a cross from the left, Brandon Luke missed the ball but McClair’s attempt was saved. In 83 minutes Graham had a shot that went over the bar and the last attempt by the Pars was when Potter sent an attempt high and wide from Chemin’s corner on the right.

An improvement in the second half from the Pars, after Kilmarnock had dominated the first half.

Post match comments from Dunfermline player / coach.

Despite playing the full 90 minutes of the match, John Potter spoke to the website after the match with his thoughts on the game.

“It was a wee bit different from standing on the sidelines. We really struggled at the start, they moved the ball really well and we couldn’t get the ball back. They scored the goal and I feared the worst but we got to grips a bit better, though they were still the better team.

"At half time we changed a few things, changed our shape a wee bit and asked them to play a wee bit higher and get after the ball. I thought we were probably the better team in the second half. We looked a wee bit more threatening but we gave away a sloppy goal. We had four 15 year olds playing out there. They gave us a wee bit of a spark in the second half and I am please from that side of things. It was a disappointing first half though.

“Stuart Morrison took a knock on his ankle and PJ took a knock on his toe. PJ could possibly have carried on but we decided to take him off at half time. I thought Jordan Orru came on and did very well and he has been unlucky not to play in games as we have had Ross Drummond and Alex Whittle in the team. He came on and did well though and it was Scott Sutherland’s first game for the 20’s. He is still 15 years old, but I thought he did well when he came on and caused them a problem up front.

"Their goalkeeper had a couple of good saves and Cammy McClair was unlucky with the one when it was 2 nil. If you get a goal then to make it 2-1 then you just never know.

“I thought we were much better in the second half without creating great chances, but we got in good areas and it was maybe just the final pass or the final ball that let us down.

“The old legs feel ok at the moment, but it will be tomorrow morning when it kicks in! I enjoyed it though and we were a bit short in defence. I should maybe play a bit more as I quite like playing with the younger kids. They have a great attitude."
