ABERDEEN 3 DUNFERMLINE 0

Dunfermline made the trip north to the wintery Buchan coast on Tuesday afternoon to take on Aberdeen in the SPFL Under 20 league.

Aberdeen had the better of the early exchanges with Craig Murray supplying a cross that put the Pars defence under great pressure in eighth minute. Stephen O`Neill got in a shot that goalkeeper Cammy Gill saved.

Aberdeen however did open the scoring just two minutes later after skillul work from Scott Wright down the left. His cut back was hammered home by Lawrence SHANKLAND. 1-0 Aberdeen

Barry Robson`s free kick was headed over by Scott McKenna just minutes later but the Fifers rallied and forced their way into the game.

Ryan Williamson got in behind the Dons defence in 24 minutes to put in a cross that flashed right across the face of goal.  The home team had another good chance just five minutes from the break when Murray beat his man and his cross found Shankland but his effort went inches past.  Then Williamson provided an opening for Stephen Husband but he sent his effort over the bar.

Half Time: Aberdeen 1 Dunfermline 0

Dunfermline coach John Potter felt that his side had been the better team in the first half despite turning around one down.  Gill made a good block in 52 minutes before his side continued to create chances. Thomson came close and Husband and Williamson posed further threats.

As the match entered its final quarter however Aberdeen scored again O`Neill fed Shankland the ball and when he squared Scott WRIGHT was on hand to finish off the post. Alan O`SULLIVAN added a third with ten minutes to go.

Luke Johnston was through one on one with Nicky Weaver in 85 minutes but the keeper made a good save. It had been a good Pars performance and although the scoreline was disappointing, Potter reminded everybody that sometimes it is not all about that.
