SPFL Reserve League: Quinn Coulson (12) 1-0: Stuart Morrison (16) 2-0

DUNFERMLINE RESERVES 2 MOTHERWELL RESERVES 0

It was a young reserve side that was started against Motherwell on a wet and foggy Tuesday afternoon in Kelty. Stuart Morrison and Matty Todd were really the only players with experience and Gabby McGill the only other first team squad played in the side.

The Pars got off to a great start scoring two goals in the first sixteen minutes. Both goals came from corners on the right won by and taken by Matty Bowman. The first in 12th minute was struck low to the edge of the box where Todd sent a shot towards the left side of the Motherwell goal and Quinn COULSON turned the ball in. 1-0

The second came just four minutes later and this time Bowman’s delivery was perfect for MORRISON to head into the top left corner. 2-0

There was promise of more to come and when in 27 minutes Miller Fenton sped forward to tee up Lewis Sawers on the left side of the box, Peter Morrison’s reaction to be out quick denied the Fifers another.

Motherwell has really been kept well away from Ben Swindon’s goal but Lewis Robertson tried his best to create opportunities to break through the resolute Pars defence. He had a shot blocked by Paul Brown before a 32nd minute free kick offered the Steelmen a chance.

The Motherwell free kick from 23 yards out was sent over the Pars wall and high over Swinton`s goal by Ross Maciver. Three minutes later the ‘Well no.8 broke in on the left side and this time Swinton blocked the shot and reacted fast to grasp the loose ball.

In 38 minutes the Pars were awarded a free kick on the right edge of the Motherwell box after their keeper slid out and handled outside his area. Bowman took the setpieces that was met by and Cammy Graham`s header but Morrison gathered.

Three minutes from half time McGill sent Todd racking through into the ‘Well box but was dispossessed before he could release a shot.

The second half was only five minutes old when coach Greg Shields was forced into making his first substitution, Lucas Berry coming on for Cammy Graham who appeared to pick up a strain when overstretching for the ball.

Captain Paul Brown hit the crossbar in 52 minutes but it was his own while in defensive mode. The visitors were pinning the Pars back in their own half and it was a relief to see Jack Brown’s cross from the right headed outside the left goalpost by Max Hutchison on the hour.

Motherwell continued to enjoy plenty possession but when Cole Starrs created a chance for Maciver his shot from the edge of the box was hit well wide. The home side’s best attempt of the second half came in 73 minutes when Todd on the right cut back for McGill on the edge of the box and his well hit effort was beaten away by the keeper who them held Berry’s follow up

Lennon Watson and Josh Robertson were introduced with 13 minutes remaining taking the places of Lewis Sawers and Gabby McGill. They were followed seven minutes by final sub-Gregor Jordan.

Despite a real push from Motherwell the Pars defence saw the match out to register a good three points.
