Kelty Hearts 0 Dunfermline XI 3

Wednesday, 10th Jul 2019

Pre Season Friendly: Stuart Morrison (6) 0-1: Callum Smith (29) 0-2: Lewis McCann (31) 0-3.

Kelty Hearts fielded their new signings Ben MacKenzie, Danny Ashe, Gary Cennerazzo, Thomas Reilly, Scott Linton, Nathan Austin and Dylan Easton against a young Dunfermline side.

Matthew Todd got the friendly underway at New Central Park with the visitors defending the goal at the hedge end. It was there that Linton flighted over a third minute corner from the left that Murray Carstairs sent over the bar.

Three minutes later, with virtually their first attack Dunfermline opened the scoring. A smart pass from Matty Bowman to Lewis Crosbie on the right saw the Pars no.7 cut inside as Bowman made the run into the Kelty box, but MORRISON was the chosen option sitting 20 yards out to crash the ball home. 0-1

Kelty tried to respond quickly but they nearly got caught again when Morrison was allowed another shot from the top of the D. The effort went wide left but there followed another good opportunity when Morrison and Smith combined to let Lewis McCann in for a shot that was blocked.

Next the Kelty keeper, Ben McKenzie, had to pull off an 19th minute save when Todd picked out Smith in front of goal. The Pars defence were doing well to stifle the threat of Nathan Austin and Sean McKirdy but as the home side got their passing game together Thomas Reilly got close enough for a shot but his effort went over the crossbar.

Bowman produced another two dangerous crosses as the Pars gave as good as they got. The young Pars went two ahead just before the half hour mark. It was a well worked goal, a long ball out of defence by Thomas Bragg to Crosbie who ran down the right, his low cross in evaded Todd but was converted by SMITH. 0-2

2-0 became 3-0 just two minutes later. McCANN gathered the ball in middle of park and got away from Errol Douglas with some nice footwork to fire into the net from inside the Kelty box. 0-3

On 38 minutes Dylan Easton looked certain to score after making ground down the left. His low cross goal shot hit the far post where Austin and then McKirdy were denied by the combined effort of Cammy Gill and his defenders.

It was an impressive first half performance from a very pacy Pars team. Strong tackles going in but dealing well with that. Well taken goals an example in how to finish.

Half time: Kelty Hearts 0 Dunfermline XI 3

The home side restarted with intent, Easton firing a shot on target from the left after only 25 seconds but Gill parried that away. Dunfermline’s Paul Allan created danger in 52 minutes delivering a ball that Douglas had to feed back to his keeper off his body. Three minutes later McCann made a super in down the right, first dispossessing Gary Cennerazzo he raced on, got the better of Cennerazzo for a second time and crossed for Crosbie only for Stephen Husband to intercept just in time.

Lewis Sawers replaced Lewis McCann just before the hour mark before Smith supplied a good ball in from the left that Todd directed on target but the shot was blocked.

Four more substitutes in 65 minutes Todd, Morrison, Allan and Crosbie off replaced by Arnott, Newton and Trialist, Trialist and three more in 70 minutes- Brown, Bowman and Smith going off to make way for Robertson, Berry and Coulston.

Kelty were making regular substitutions as well and although that interrupted play it appeared to make no difference whatsoever to the way this Dunfermline side handled the game.

Recent sub Quinn Coulston was sent through the middle by Liam Newton but his low driven shot from the edge of the area slipped narrowly wide left. Kelty tried to score what would have been a consolation but Brian Ritchie headed wide left.

Next sub Stuart Cargill fired a strong shot on target but Gregor Jordan headed the ball over his own crossbar. The Pars saw the match out and it was a very proud coach Greg Shields who congratulated his side on a very impressive performance at full time.
