KILMARNOCK 5 DUNFERMLINE 1

The Reserve team that took on Kilmarnock at Rugby Park contained six members of the first team squad. It was the first game time for Malaury Martin as a Pars player. and the side was bolstered with the inclusion of James Craigen, Kallum Higginbotham, Andy Ryan, Robbie Muirhead and Aidan Connolly.

Kilmarnock too fielded a reasonably strong team not relying too much on their Development squad and including former Par Ross Millen, Danny Higgins, Rory McKenzie, Greg Kiltie and Dom Thomas.

Ryan kicked the game off and both sides had early corners. Killie`s in second minute was cleared by Brandon Luke and then his skipper Stuart Morrison. Two minutes later Higginbotham took the Pars first corner short to Luke but conceded a free kick. Higgy did have the ball in the hosts net in fifth minute from a Connolly cross but the referee adjudged him to have fouled his defender.

Just three minutes later a Higginbotham pass picked out Muirhead but his cross dropped behind Ryan and Killie cleared. Morrison was shown yellow when conceding a free kick on the edge of his penalty box and from the resultant free kick Thomas dispatched his attempt high over Cammy Gill`s bar.

The visitors then had several attempts of their own, from Ryan, Muirhead and then Todd. There was a Connolly cross that was just too high and in between a Cameron header landed on the roof of the Fifers net.

On 20 minutes Gill turned a Thomas shot away for a corner that Luke and Todd combined to clear. Next Killie`s Will Graham fired a shot narrowly wide before Dunfermline had the ball in the net again only for it to be disallowed. A high ball into the box from Craigen saw Ryan go for it with the keeper, but the Pars striker as judged to have raised his feet too high and Killie were awarded the free kick.

Kilmarnock took the lead on the half hour through GRAHAM who followed up Morrison`s headed clearance from Thomas` free kick from the right level with the six yard line. The volleyed strike gave Gill little chance. 1-0

The visitors response was a Higginbotham run up the right and cross that the keeper held and a Ryan shot that was blocked. The quick goal that they sorely wanted unfortunately came at the other end. A 36th minute Kiltie cross into the box was volleyed home by Innes CAMERON. 2-0

Higginbotham in particular strived to get one back before the break but his 39th minute shot went wide, his shot from a Todd pass was blocked and his 45th minute cross was headed away by Millen. Martin`s foul on the edge of the box gave Kilmarnock had one more chance from a free kick. THOMAS`s shot was deflected off the defensive wall into the far side of Gill`s goal. 3-0

Pars could feel aggrieved at being three goals down especially having two goals chalked off early on.

Half Time: Kilmarnock 3 Dunfermline 0

Dunfermline resumed their assault after the break. A Higginbotham cross was cleared and a Connolly attempt held by Devlin MacKay. Connolly then won a free kick on the edge of the box but when Martin took it to Higginbotham the cross was headed away by Barlow.

With everything failing to penetrate the home defence there was relief in 49 minutes when the Fifers were awarded a penalty for a blatant push on Ryan as he prepared to finish a Craigen cut back and there was a chance to score. Unfortunately Mackay dived low to his left to keep out Higginbotham`s effort.

Martin and then Muirhead had attempts in quick succession - Martin`s was blocked and Muirhead`s travelled across goal and out for a goal kick. The Pars did get off the mark however in 62 minutes when RYAN got high to head home a Higginbotham cross. 3-1

Unfortunately Killie restored their three goal advantage just four minutes later, Ollie McDONALD slotting away at Gill`s near post after his first effort was blocked by the keeper. 4-1

A 69th minute corner taken and Muirhead got his head to ball. Ryan went down injured after attempting a shot and then Morrison attempt blocked and cleared. Andy Ryan was shown a red card for dissent as the physio was treating him.

A Connolly free kick five minutes later deflected off the wall and the keeper gathered. Next great work by Craigen made ground down the right, he passed to Connolly whose attempt was blocked by Barlow.

KILTIEmade it 5-1 thirteen mintes from the end with his individual skills and triickery wrong footed the Fifers defence and he sneaked the ball in low at the right goalpost.

Another Killie attempt from McDonald went wide of Gill`s goal and a Luke cross just evaded Connolly to go out for a goal kick. Paul Allan cleared a Millen cross and Morrison blocked another Kiltie attempt so there was no further scoring.
