Pre Season Friendly: Joe Thomson and Callum Smith start

Two changes from the side that started against Tranmere Rovers - Joe Thomson and Callum Smith in for Kallum Higginbotham and Andy Ryan.

Motherwell kicked off attacking the goal at the McCathie Stand end and within 25 seconds Andy Rose drove a shot from 25 yards out that Lee Robinson dropped to his right to hold. Mark Durnan was forced to head a Elliot Frear cross behind for a fifth minute corner on the left but when Frear sent in the ball Motherwell sent it wide left.

Two minutes later Robinson came out to block a Curtis Main threat and from another corner from in front of the tunnel, Jackson Longridge headed away Frear’s delivery. The ‘Well enjoyed the majority of the possession and earned another corner this time on the right in 14 minutes. Frear took this one as well and again J Longridge met the cross to head clear.

Chris Cadden accepted a pass from Frear but drove his 17th minute shot over the bar. It was midway through the half before the Steelmen’s keeper had much to do. When J Longridge held the ball up on the left, James Craigen was set up to cross but that was too close to the keeper.

Kevin Clancy pulled up play when Smith was cut down despite J Longridge carrying the ball through the middle. From the 27th minute free kick Craigen pumped the ball too far and Gillespie rose to hold. Back to the other end and Rose was again allowed a shot from outside the box and this time he was wide left.

Liam Donnelly powered a header over the Pars bar on the half hour and six minutes later when Campbell and Main linked up Cadden was able to be get in a dangerous cross from the right that Robinson held.

Bowman’s cross was turned behind by Durnan for a 39th minute corner from the right and when that came in the referee saw an infringement and awarded the home side a free kick. Two minutes later Frear played a neat ball through the middle and Main was put off just enough by Durnan to let Robinson slide out to collect.

A 43 minutes corner from the right was headed down by Dunne towards the right goalpost but Robinson held.

Three subs came on for Motherwell and it was the away side that threatened first from a 50th minute corner from the left and Dunne connected but forced the ball wide. Next minute the Fifers won their first corner of the evening as Thomson’s shot from the edge of the box was deflected wide. Craigen delivered from the left and Lewis McCann broke away from the group in the middle of the box to come desperately close to getting in a glancing header.

On 55 Devine made a painful block on Main’s shot and Williamson cleared the second ball. Motherwell then got their best chance this far after Main took advantage of a weak connection by Durnan and advanced to the top of the D to release a powerful low shot that went narrowly wide left.

The Pars introduced their Trialist upfront in place of Callum Smith in 62 minutes and two minutes later the visitors made four more substitutions - Aaron Taylor-Sinclair, Cedric Kipre, David Turnbull and Peter Hartley.

It was McHugh getting forward that almost set up an opener, his looping header reaching Johnston in front of goal but he hooked the ball over from ten yards out.

J Longridge then created the Pars best chance, his solo run beating off two players to reach the left side of the ‘Well box and squaring for the Trialist. His left footed shot from eight yards out was blocked by the keeper and the ball went behind off sub Aidan Connolly.

Lee Ashcroft came on for Lewis Martin and then Kallum Higginbotham for Joe Thomson. Motherwell used their tenth sub before Connolly injected some energy down the left only to run out of pitch.

Three minutes from time L Longridge won possession midway inside the visitors half, he advanced before shooting but his attempt was high. Motherwell hit on the counterattack, three on three but they let Dunfermline get back and it was Higginbotham who won the ball back.

Even with all the time used up for the many subs, Kevin Glancy had seen enough and added no extra time.
