Pre Season friendly: Three trialists start at Lesser Hampden

The roads to Glasgow were busy on Wednesday night but most of the interest was in Celtic's first European match against the Icelanders at Celtic Park. Over at Lesser Hampden Dunfermline took on Queens Park in their fifth pre season friendly. Three trialists started for Allan Johnston's side including one in goal.

Queens Park hit the left upright within 50 seconds when their no.10 was able to direct a cross in from the right at the Pars goal.

The Pars first shot at goal came from a Michael Paton free kick hit from 20 yards out on the left angle of the box that he sent over the bar. Next chance fell to Michael Moffat but his chip also cleared the bar.

Despite all the pressure the Pars were to concede an 11th minute penalty and the Queens no.10 stepped up to stick the ball away in the bottom left corner. Maybe a bit harsh a decision since Ben Richards-Everton's tackle looked outside the box. 1-0 nevertheless.

The Spiders lead lasted only five minutes before Josh FALKINGHAM's shot from the edge of the D caught a deflection on its way to the bottom left. 1-1

It was fairly end to end for a spell with the home side thrashing the ball wide left from an acute angle on the right. Moffat burst through the middle and threaded the ball right for Paton but there was just too much weight on the pass.

The Pars Hopkirk had three corners to take in 37th minute. The two trialists almost converted at the first, then Richards-Everton was the target with two deep crosses but it was Paton who was to get the space to cross in 39 minutes for MOFFAT to score the Pars second.

Two minutes later Ryan Williamson got around the defence and cut back to give TRIALIST no.10 an easy conversion. 1-3

The home side struck in a fine goal in the time added on at the end of the first half. Their no.8, Craig McLEISH produced a cracking finish to find the net at the left post. 2-3

Dunfermline really deserved to be further ahead given the amount of control they had of the first half but the Glasgow amateurs kept themselves in touch with two good finishes, albeit one from a disputed penalty.

Eight subs were brought on for the Fifers for the restart. Only the three substitutes remained as Jordan Orru, John Potter, Andy Geggan, Lewis Spence, Shaun Byrne, Faissal El Bakhtaoui, Ryan Wallace and a right back Trialist came on.

Spence turned his man sweetly to get away a shot in 54 minutes but his sights were too high. At the other end the League Two club launched a decent ball on target but it was also straight at the keeper who held competently.

The Pars no.10 trialist was then to try a good attempt from 25 yards and that one rose all the way to narrowly clear the crossbar. The trialist right back was then picked out by Spence and his delivery to the back post was headed down by Orru. Trialist no.10 brought down the ball but it was Wallace who tested the keeper from close range.

Minutes later the trialist got free on the right but his low shot from 15 yards out rocketed wide. That was his final involvement however as James Thomas came on in his place for the last 20 minutes.

Having made several substitutions Queens Park launched fresh attacks but nothing that troubled the Pars defence though it did take a timely tackle from Spence to halt the progress of one of their speedier subs.

Then in 74 minutes Wallace drove in on goal and forced the home keeper to parry his shot. That only teed up EL BAKHTAOUI whose shot took a deflection as it found the net to the keeper's left. 2-4

The first of two 80th minute corners was sent in from the right by Wallace for Geggan at the near post but that was turned behind and Queens successfully cleared the second. Next danger came from a Wallace free kick on the left touchline and luck deserted Geggan as the defence reacted effectively.

Two minutes from time Byrne turned on the style on the right side of the Queens box to tee up El Bakhtaoui but his shot was deflected wide. A fifth goal was to come however. Orru rose in the centre of the box and when the opposition keeper failed to take and GEGGAN drilled in the final goal.
