FFIT Success in Germany

The Dunfermline Athletic’s FFIT Team were invited to take part in the German annual Fußballfans in Training tournament that was held in Dresden. They were the first Scottish side to take part in the event, which was made up of people who have joined the FFIT programme at the Pars. The FFIT programme encourages individuals over 30 to learn about healthy eating and living while sharing a common love of football.

The squad of 10 competed in the six-a-side competition and progressed to the knockout stages after winning their group undefeated. After a convincing win in the quarter final, they knocked out Dresden (last year’s previous winners) on penalties after a tense game ended in a draw. Two brilliant saves from keeper Mark Eglington and three fantastic penalties from Craig Wilson, Andy Crawford & James Slattery secured their place in the final. The team beat FC Ingolstadt (twinned with Kirkcaldy) in the final 2-0. It was a tremendous achievement to win, especially in such hot weather conditions.

Captain, David Anderson said: “The hospitality was excellent as was the organisation. The warm and friendly reception from everyone, in addition to being triumphant, made for an exceptional experience and is an example of just some of the potential benefits for those involved.”
