Board Announcement | Bob Garmory

Dunfermline Athletic Football Club can announce that Bob Garmory has retired as a Director of the Club.

Having been involved with Pars United for some months, Bob became a Director of the Club in September 2013, just a few weeks before Pars United CIC acquired control of the Club and he was Chairman until June 2016.

As Chairman, Bob helped to steer the Club during a very difficult period when it had to rebuild relationships: with local businesses which had lost money as a result of the administration period; with other football clubs in Scotland; and with the various supporter groups who had helped to keep the Club alive. Bob was also a director of Pars United CIC and a trustee of Pars Foundation.

Bob made an enormous contribution to the Club during that time and his wisdom and diplomacy will be missed by the Board.

We wish him well in his retirement and look forward to seeing him, and his family, around KDM Group East End Park for many years to come.

Dunfermline Athletic Chairman and CEO David Cook commented: “On behalf of the board of directors at DAFC, I would like to thank Bob for his service and support to the club over the past decade. Bob performed the role of Chairman at the club during an incredibly challenging period after we exited administration and played an integral role in rebuilding trust amongst supporters, partners and other clubs across Scotland.

Whilst he may have exited the board, I know Bob will remain a passionate supporter of the club and will be on hand to help where he can. We wish him well in retirement.”

Bob Garmory added: “It was a huge privilege and honour to become Chairman and subsequently a Director of the club I have supported from boyhood.

However whatever success was achieved over my time in those roles was due to efforts of countless volunteers whose desire to see our club flourish was a source of great inspiration to me. I would like to thank all my fellow directors past and present for their support during my tenure on the Board and also thank Matt, Margaret, Craig and Shirley for all their support.

Finally I couldn’t sign off without a special thanks to Willie and Kev with whom I have had the opportunity to deal with quite a few interesting Stadium and Pitch maintenance challenges over the years. However difficult they were, we always got the job done and had a laugh whilst doing so.

Best regards to all.”
