Morton are beatable says Alex Whittle

Alex Whittle feels that his season has yet to start. Now in late October he can only boast two starts and two appearances off the bench. The 21 year old poured out his frustrations when he spoke exclusively to the website:-

"I have been injured on and off for the last two months. In the last few weeks I have been getting back to fitness; I am feeling much better now but August and September were frustrating months.

"When you have been off so long you have to come back and get yourself fit, it is like doing a pre-season again. I needed to play under twenties games to get myself fit but I feel much better now.

"I kept getting pains in my knee and every time I tried coming back I was breaking down again. I came back two or three times only for it to go sore again the next day."

After scoring in the first competitive game of the season against Annan Athletic, Alex next featured in the away game to Forfar but then missed eight matches before coming off the bench against both Ayr United and Forfar Athletic. From the sidelines he watched his team mates secure second place in the league and in a position where there is all to play for. He is convinced that the league campaign can be successful:-

"With the strikers we have got, I think goals will come. Moffat is a proven goalscorer, Faissal has scored a couple and Gozie has scored a few as well. Obviously last Saturday Forfar continued to be Dunfermline's jinx, they are a frustrating team and to be fair to them, they had a few chances.

"Obviously we had the penalty at the end and had we scored we would have been top of the league. There is only a point in it, if we beat Morton on Saturday and Forfar slip up we are top of the league."

When Dunfermline faced Morton at Cappielow Jim Duffy's team didn't allow their opponents a lot of time on the ball. Alex thinks that the result first time around was as a result of it being just one of those days:-

"I was injured then but they had a really good day and we had a bad day. It wasn't even as though we played well. They seemed to be really up for that game and they won but for the two games after that they slipped up. That shows that they are beatable.

"They were in our faces and so it is all about how we start the game again on Saturday. If we get a good start and an early goal then that would put them on the back foot. If we fail to get the early goal then they can sit back."

There is a well known opponent in Andy Barrowman and Alex said that he kept in touch with the Morton striker:-

"Me, Josh and Callum (Morris) used to get on well with Andy. I spoke to him last game, it will be good to see him but hopefully he doesn't score. Declan McManus is a good player, he is sharp and his goal was good against us. Hopefully we can keep him and Barra' quiet."

Alex hopes to start but accepts that injuries happen in football:-

"Last season I had quite a good season now I want to get back in the team and kick on."
