Whittling towards success

Saturday, 12th Jan 2013

"There is pressure on being top of the league but I feel that Morton and Partick haven't handled being top of the league very well in the last couple of weeks."

ALEX WHITTLE

The match at Dumbarton last weekend was only Alex Whittle's fourth start for Dunfermline but he felt that it was good to get back in the starting line up after a gap of almost four months. His last start was on 15th September when Dunfermline last visited Dumbarton but he felt that the Sons pitch wasn't good and the conditions weren't conducive for quality football:-

"I was happy to get the start and hopefully I can get more starts under my belt." Alex wasn't deterred by the off the field money problems at Dunfermline and said:-

"All the lads have just got on with it really. There is a good team spirit, everyone gets on well with each other and there are not really any arguments. There is pressure on being top of the league but I feel that Morton and Partick haven't handled being top of the league very well in the last couple of weeks."

With Andy Geggan probably required to fill in again at right back, Shaun Byrne in Cyprus with the U20s and Josh Falkingham serving a one game suspension there is a good chance that Alex will start against Airdrie United. It would seem that Fayssal El Bakhtaoui and Ivan D'Angelo might find themselves on the bench in the absence of John Potter and his U20s squad.

The 19 year old continued:-

"There are four games coming up now where we need to get the wins to maintain being on the top of the table and progress."
