Wallace's Dunfermline double

Sunday, 24th Nov 2013

"I am more of a striker but if the gaffer wants me to play there on the left hand side then I am happy to play there for the team.

RYAN WALLACE

Listen to this Ryan Wallace interview

Ryan Wallace scored twice on Saturday against Brechin City bringing his total for the season so far to nine. This brace came despite playing in a deeper role than he started the season. He talked us through his first:-

"I have taken up this wide position at the moment, the gaffer is enjoying me playing out there and getting at people. I am enjoying it myself and I know that Ryan Thomson is going to be there when I play it round the corner. I had to do a bit of talking to get it back. I think I got lucky with the break that I managed to get on to. Luckily I lashed it into the net when it sat up nicely. These things break for you in football and you need to deal with it when it happens."

This role is not new to Ryan having played wide as a youth and he admits to being happy to fulfil the role if it means that he gets a game.

"I am more of a striker but if the gaffer wants me to play there on the left hand side then I am happy to play there for the team. I relish it to be honest, getting one on one with full backs, taking them on and getting at them, it is enjoyable."

Ryan's goal three minutes from the end put an end to ten man Brechin's hopes of salvaging a point from the match:-

"It kind of killed the game off. We make it tough for ourselves - it wouldn't be Dunfermline if it didn't. Brechin made it tough for us as well. They came and chucked men forward. They had nothing to lose when they went down to ten men but we didn't play anywhere near in the second as what we did in the first half. We need to work on that and get back to doing the right thing in the second half."

RYAN WALLACE

Ayr United scored four in defeating Stenhousemuir so next week's cup tie opponents may require Ryan to knock in a few to win through next weekend:-

"We scored three so it doesn't really matter, it is a totally different game, it's a cup game. It is a one off. Ayr came here and we beat them 5-1. It will not be a 5-1 game down there to be sure. They will make it tough for us because they are a big physical side. Everything came off for us but might not come off for us next week. It might be a scrappy 1-0 but we will take that to get into the next round of the cup."

After a decent run of results Dunfermline should travel to Somerset Park full of confidence and Ryan even feels that defeats at home to Arbroath and at Ibrox still produced good Dunfermline performances:-

"The boys have been playing well and consistently. Sometimes it doesn't come off for a young side. Overall we are scoring goals, we are playing fast flowing football and it must be a joy for people to watch. Of course it is good to get wins but that doesn't matter whether we win 1-0 or 5-0, a win is a win and it gets you into the play off places."

Fans get their monies worth according to the 23 year old Par:-

"We are a young fluent team. When we play football nobody is scared to get on the ball, we create chances. We don't score as many as we'd like to but hopefully that will come."
