MATCH PICTURES
This was a match to savour a Dunfermline team winning at Tynecastle!.  It last happened courtesy of Ross Jack and George O`Boyle back on 10th February 1990 but now Blair Henderson can gloat on the first winning goal over the Jambos in Gorgie for over 22 years.

The pre match snow shower ceased as the visitors kicked off at Tynecastle on Tuesday night. Dunfermline looked up for the challenge from the start and were unfortunate to go behind with the Jambos first positive play of the evening.

There had been a good interchange midway inside the Pars half and when Gordon Smith went to ground 20 yards out there was no dispute when a free kick was awarded. Denis Prychynenko smashed a powerful effort on target and when Pars keeper Michal Hrivnak beat the shot away, Dale CARRICK followed up to stick the rebound past him. 1-0 in eighth minute.

Prychynenko earned a yellow card seven minutes later when he chopped down Alex Whittle as he sped up the right. The Englishman took the setpiece himself and picked out Kerr YOUNG whose header was beautifully flighted into the far corner of the Hearts net. 1-1

1-1

Fayssal El Bakhtaoui almost snatched the lead four minutes later but his 25 yard effort squeezed past the right goalpost. Hearts too had their chances with Billy King not quite getting enough on Carrick`s ball across the face of the goal and King then forcing a fine save out of Hrivnak.

Both sides cancelled themselves out rather well for the final quarter of an hour leading up to the break. They went in on level terms and it could go either way in the second 45.

Half Time: Hearts 1 Dunfermline 1

Hearts had the first shot of the second half when Sam Nicholson lofted the ball over Hrivnak`s bar in 50 minutes but when Dunfermline went forward in the next minute, Millen`s pass set up WHITTLE to cut in from the right and he released an unstoppable shot from 25 yards that gave Ridgers no hope. 2-1 to the Fifers.

Dunfermline could have increased their lead but Blair Henderson was unlucky with an effort that cleared Ridgers bar and then Byrne pushed forward to lay off to Whittle but this time the keeper was able to save.

Ivan D Angelo v Hearts

Henderson did well to control a Millen cross in 58 minutes and as he turned into the box won a free kick as McGhee stopped him. Instructions from the dugout were for Whittle to take it but D`Angelo grabbed the chance and in fairness tested the tangerine stripped keeper forcing him to turn the shot around his left hand post.

Dunfermline were looking composed and well organised.  They could have been further ahead but Hearts were to take advantage of a 65th minute free kick that Fraser MULLEN curled around the wall and high into the top right of Hrivnak`s net. 2-2

With twenty minutes remaining, Allan Smith came on for Ivan D`Angelo and immediately the sub set up Whittle for a drive forward but both he, and then Byrne were stopped by the maroon defence.  It was an open game with Billy King winning the ball on the left and sending an inviting ball across goal with no one getting a touch.

Then what a let off for Hearts in 78 minutes.  Smith exploited a defence lapse and broke through one on one with the keeper. He rounded him going right and with an open goal sliced his shot wide right. The disaster was forgotten about however when HENDERSON converted a cross from the left to make it 3-2 for the visitors.

Pars celebrate what turned out to be the winner

Hearts fought back with Adam King getting deep down the right in 82 minutes.  His cross was perfect for the header from Smith but Hrivnak pulled off another good save.  In 88 minutes a free kick 25 yards out gave Hearts another opportunity but this time Prychynenko sent his shot over the crossbar.

So it ended 3-2 for the First Division club, a well deserved win in a match Dunfermline really impressed.  Well done to John Potter and his team, only negative Ross Milen`s red card after picking up a second yellow in 94th minute.
