Pars lose out to early goal then cannot find the net

Falkirk 1 Dunfermline 0

The U20 League continued at the Falkirk Stadium on Tuesday night. The Pars team lined up 3-5-2 mirroring the formation that the first team had used at Methil on Saturday.

John Potter`s boys lost what turned out to be the decisive goal just two minutes into the game when Lewis SMALL ran on to a long ball and slotted in low past Pars keeper Ryan Goodfellow.  The home side came close to increasing their lead on ten minutes. A cross from Joe Chalmers allowed both Mark Beck and Ryan Blair to attempt headers at goal but both were blocked.

Scott Mercer

It was not until midway through the first half before there was any noteworthy chances from the visitors; Scott Mercer putting a free kick over the bar. Three minutes later Jordan Orru`s run was stopped on the edge of the box and another free kick followed but that was saved by Graham Bowman. In 27 minutes a move between Dargo and Drummond ended with the trialist heading over the bar.

Before the first half ended a Drummond corner from the right was fisted clear by Bowman and he had another setpiece - a free kick that was fired straight at the keeper.

Half Time: Falkirk 1 Dunfermline 0

Twelve minutes into the second half Kerr Young shot on target when up for a free kick but unluckily Declan O`Kane blocked his team mates effort.  There were plenty of chances as the Pars forced corners from both sides.  Goodfellow was quiet until 73rd minute when he palmed away a shot from Falkirk sub Scott Shepherd.

Lewis Spence sent Finn Graham through with 15 minutes left on the clock. A foul on Graham gave Mercer another free kick opportunity that this time Gavin Paterson turned on to the crossbar.  Young headed a Drummond corner over the bar in 86 minutes, there were a few more corners, the keeper saved from Pateson and try as they did Dunfermline were just not able to find the net.
