We are not good enough to give teams a goal of a start but we have not scored first in any game

St Mirren v Dunfermline

Ticket Info:- Hibs v Dunfermline 30/12/06

Stephen Simmons admitted the match was a bit of a scrap:-

"We knew it  was going to be down here. The wet weather, it was cold - we knew they would be up for it and we would be up for it and it would be a battle. I enjoyed it and I think the draw was probably fair after 90.

"We came here to take three points.  We got a clean sheet which is a positive.  Darren Young and Phil McGuire came back in and played well.  A clean sheet is all we could ask for. Hopefully we can start putting chances away and climb the table."

The much talked about Dunfermline injury list is reducing and Stephen reflected the mood with his comments:-

"It has been unbelievable really.  It has been one player after another even with wee Burchy coming back, there's him out again. Phil and Darren are back, McIntyre is on his way back - it is looking good and hopefully we can get everybody back and get a full squad with everybody challenging for places."

A shut out is something of a start but the team know that they have to start scoring goals to win games:-

"We are not good enough to give teams a goal of a start but we have not scored first in any game. The longer we can keep a clean sheet I am sure that the forwards can get a goal and move us in the right way.

"It is lack of confidence; a couple of mistakes by everybody, not defending as a team.  The gaffer has got us in tighter.  Phil and Darren have come back so we are solid and experienced.

"I like a good battle; I'd put the ball aside and have a good fight! We knew it was going to be hard; Gus (MacPherson's) teams are well organised."

Christmas parties may have been cancelled for Dunfermline but Stephen is determined that is the correct decision and they can celebrate with goals, points and victories nevertheless:-

"I don't know what we are going to be doing, we just take it from day to day. The Christmas do was cancelled, I was gutted, but you just have to get on with it. We had organised it before the gaffer came in.  It is his way - we are bottom of the league - we will work away, work how the gaffer wants and we will benefit in the end.

"He has shown who is boss.  He is the Manager and that is what he has to do. We do what he says, if he says jump we say how high.  We cannot grumble and hopefully it will pay off."
