Ryan returns to Airdrie

Friday, 13th Nov 2015

Ryan Wallace made eight appearances for Airdrie United in 2010, scoring three goals.

Ryan Wallace is looking forward to Saturday's match against Airdrie, his hometown team and it was no surprise that he claimed that it was "a good place to go"

"It will be exciting and I am sure that I will get a bit of abuse. It is a nice big pitch and a good surface all year round with it being AstroTurf. I am sure that we will take a good support with us because I am sure that it will be a good afternoon."

Having praised the pitch Ryan then added:-

"If you ask any professional footballer they don't really want to play on Astro, Astro is not their preferred surface, it is grass. We train on Astro regularly and the surface is actually very good but obviously it is just not great for your body.

"It will not change our game plan, all the boys are comfortable playing on Astro and we will go and play our normal game and hopefully come away with all three points."

Ryan didn't start a game this season until mid September but acknowledged that it is for Allan Johnston to choose:-

"I just need to push hard in training and try and get in the team. It is down to the manager to decide if I am ready to play in the team or what he needs on the day."

The ailments that kept Ryan virtually out of the team for close on 18 months, now seem to have healed. Ryan added:

"My body is completely fine. I have no problems at all. I trained from the day we came back, I have not missed a session at all and I have played and been available for every game. I have been asking to play in Under 20s games as well.

"I am a striker / number ten dropping off the strikers but I have been coming on wide. It is kind of natural to me because I grew up playing wide because I was smaller when I was younger. I played wide rather than up top. It is up to the manager where he wants to play me. I am not going to argue with him."

Just why Airdrieonians have done so well over the Pars in recent meetings is a mystery to Ryan who continued:-

"Gary Bollan organises his sides very well, they are very fit, very competitive and their shape is usually very good. They always do make it difficult for us but we should be going there hoping the pick up three points. At the end of the day it does not always work out like that; games become tough and we make it tough for ourselves but I am sure that at the end of the day we will get the result."

As for the local banter the 25 year old striker added:-

"I will probably get a bit of stick during the game, I don't mind it but if you are getting stick you know that are doing something right. It is part and parcel of football. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. It does not really bother me, I laugh it off and then if you score a goal you can wind them up a wee bit more. It goes back and forward and it is more enjoyable that way."
