Back to school on Wednesdays but East End Park for learning

Robbie Crawford is the 17 year old midfielder who has become an ever present in the Pars squad for SPFL Development League matches this season. He introduced himself:-

"I am from Dunfermline and attended Woodmill High School. I was 9 or 10 when I came into Dunfermline but about three years later I was signed by Rangers. I was not enjoying it so I came back to Dunfermline and I have started to enjoy it again."

Who of the players that were with you in the younger age group are still at Dunfermline and how are you progressing since you returned from Murray Park?

"Cammy Gill and Johnny Galloway but also Jordan Orru in the older age group. I am a first year apprentice since coming in full time in the summer. I have enjoyed it, it is a good laugh but hard work though."

What kind of work do you have to do?

"I am on the lounge just now so I have to hoover up, do all the dishes and make sure that everything is clean. That is probably the worst job out of them all and I have to make sure that my boots are clean as well. I am on Josh Falkingham's and David Hopkirk's. They are fine but I have not had them in dirty yet. I have made sure that they are clean everyday."

What do you do on your day off?

"I go back into school to try and get my higher English. I go in one day a week because we all got the choice of going back into school to do one more subject on the Wednesday - our day off. All three young boys who came in have decided to do it. Reece Duncan is doing PE and Johnny is doing human biology."

Were you keen to progress academically when at school?

"I probably didn't try as much as I should of but I did okay at school. I got six National 5s and two Highers in PE and drama."

Robbie's dad is the former Pars striker Stevie and the young Crawford is always keen to get his views on how he has played.

"I just try and get his opinion but I normally know myself if I have played well or not. He was at the game when we beat Hearts but I was focused to beat him."

The roles were reversed when Stevie Crawford played in the Jock Stein Memorial match:-

"I thought he did okay, I thought he still had the legs. One on one with the goalie, he took a good first touch but should have scored a goal."

You train with John Potter but still get involved in the first team training. How are you enjoying that?

"Potts, Sandy and the manager have been really good. It is always good to get involved with the first team because it is a high standard of training. It is hard when you go up to them, but it is enjoyable."

What are you expecting from this season?

"I need to improve ever day, we go to the gym and normally a Tuesday is upper body and then a Thursday is leg work. I am improving my weights, they are going up and I am happy that I am on the right track. I just make sure that I enjoy my training, improving my gym work and improving every day at training so that I can go on to start every time for the 20s and hopefully one day break through to the first team."
