The 2016-2017 league season gets underway on Saturday when Dumbarton are the visitors and the League One champions flag will be unfurled. The Sons drew two and lost two of their Betfred Cup ties and a bit like Dunfermline are still short of a player or two. . They only had four substitutes on the bench last Saturday against Peterhead and their manager Steven Aitken had a look at three trialists in their friendly against Clydebank on Tuesday night.

The Pars will be aiming to get their Championship season off to the best
possible starts with a home win. Prior to Dumbarton`s 4-3 win in March 2013 the last home defeat at the hands of the Sons was on 8th October 1986.

Back in March 2013 Dunfermline were on the brink of going into administration and it was extremely hard for players and fans alike to concentrate on on the park matters.
The Pars slumped to their sixth consecutive home defeat as Dumbarton came back from 3-1 down to win 4-3. Ryan Wallace had the home team one up at the break. Andy Barrowman had doubled the lead four minutes into the second half, former Par Steven McDougall got one back in 56 minutes and Chris Turner and Scott Agnew added another two before McDougall`s winner six minutes from the end.

The Pars last league win at home was against Peterhead on the final day of last season and since then they won at Cowdenbeath and lost at Tannadice in the Betfred Cup. Dumbarton`s last league win was a 2-1 home win over St Mirren. Since then in the Betfred Cup they have drawn away game at Forfar and lost at Dundee. Dumbarton have gone 13 matches without an away win, that being at Alloa in December last year.
