There is quite a contrast between Dunfermline and their nearest rivals this season. With seven matches to go the Pars are only four matches away from securing the title while Cowdenbeath are just two points off the foot of the table where the heat is increasing due to a revival from Brechin City who have taken full points from their last three league matches. As a consequence the Blue Brazil have just a two point advantage over Forfar Athletic and their Angus neighbours. So with Cowdenbeath fighting to avoid back to back relegations Saturday's opponents will be all out to halt the Pars progress.

*Pre league reconstruction

Dunfermline's league record against Cowdenbeath reveals 35 wins and 27 defeats with 15 draws. Recent form has certainly favoured the East End Park side with only two defeats in the last fifteen meetings.  The most disappointing defeat was 3-0 in the First Division Play Off final and Cowdenbeath did win the last league meeting at Central Park in February 2013.  That ended a wait since August 1977 for a home win over the Pars and was their first over their nearest neighbours since May 1993.

This season

The teams first met in the Scottish League Cup First Round when after a goalless first half, two goals from Faissal El Bakhtaoui, two from Shaun Byrne, and a penalty from Ryan Wallace cancelled out a 59th minute strike from Declan Hughes for a 5-1win.

When the teams met two weeks later on league business El Bakhtaoui netted twice in the first eight minutes. Moffat, Cardle twice, Hopkirk and Wallace had the Pars 7-0 up before Pat Scullion's 89th minute consolation.

On Halloween Cowdenbeath held the Pars to a 0-0 draw at Central Park and then in the New Year fixture at East End Park Dunfermline won 2-1 thanks to goals in each half from Michael Moffat. Greig Spence had equalised in 37th minute but Moff's penalty midway through the second half secured the three points.
