Tuesday, 17th Mar 2009

"We have watched the DVD of the first game and analysed where we lost the goal. This time we just want to go up there and enjoy the experience against the bigger team.

Calum Woods Celebrates
Woods and Phinn seek success at Pittodrie

Nick Phinn STV Interview
Nick Phinn
is looking forward to the Cup Replay at Pittodrie, he joked at the simplicity of the solution:-

"Score and defend for our life!  We just hope to go up there and give a good account of ourselves. I would take a 92nd minute goal, definitely, I suppose it might be better doing that than score in the first minute and getting battered for 90.

"We know that they are a good team and can pass the ball well, they are favourites; the pressure will be on them especially being the home side."

The set piece that Nick almost scored with in the first meeting with Aberdeen will not be considered since every team Dunfermline have faced since have been wary of it.

"Everytime I have been marked at the edge of he box so I don't think that I will get away with that for the rest of the season.

"On Saturday we tried to work it the other way about but Thistle put people on the edge of the box and that may have killed off that threat a bit.  I will not be trying that again.  Hopefully we can play well and cause an upset".

Nick has got over the disappointment of being missing from the list of names announced in Billy Stark's U21 squad to face Albania in a double header.

"I have just got to get my head down and keep playing well.  Hopefully I will get my reward with a call up in the future.

"Obviously it means I can still be involved in the league games coming up.Dunfermline has a crazy backlog of games so hopefully I can help the team get back on form".

Calum Woods

Calum Woods will be pleased to return on Wednesday night after sitting out both the Pars league fixtures against Livingston and Partick Thistle.  What I have seen in the last couple of games the boys have done really well, they have played some brilliant stuff.  They had a great game against Livingston, they maybe didn't take their chances but we created lots and we were excellent.

Sometimes you need luck and we hadn't had that in the last couple of games.  The players have given their everything, shown how good they've played but they have just not got the results."

Calum is hoping that Aberdeen may suffer the reaction from the last two disappointing league games.

"We will just have to go out and do what we did in the first game against them, we matched them well and played well against them. We knew what we were up against and I knew before the game that Aloku was a good player.  I've just got to latch him in and do well against him again.

"We have watched the DVD of the first game and analysed where we lost the goal.  This time we just want to go up there and enjoy the experience against the bigger team."

Should it come to a penalty shoot out neither Nick Phinn nor Calum Woods have yet had success from the spot.  Nick has a record at youth level but has yet to take a penalty at senior level.

Calum enjoys taking penalties and if it comes to that at the end of 120 minutes, he will be hoping that he is given the responsibility of taking them.

Calum missed one in the CIS Cup at Ayr so they will both have a practice at them on Tuesday. Nick was nevertheless optimistic:-

"I have never hit a penalty professionally but I would definitely fancy it.  Whoever is confident will take them."
