Number One priority for Gall

Monday, 4th Jul 2011

"Big Wally (Chris Smith) has lost a lot of weight to come back in great shape, we will have a battle there but the two of us work hard together and the best one will come out on top ...

Paul Gallacher v Livingston

Paul Gallacher made his return debut for Dunfermline against Livingston on Saturday and confessed that he felt as though he was back home:-

"It was a good run out for us today. They are a young team who gave us the run around in the first half especially. We were a bit rusty ourselves and need to brush up on some things but it was the 45 for most of us and we are looking forward to getting going now. Games will come thick and fast and we will get our sharpness going."

The match against Livingston was played by two different elevens in each half. Apart from the right back position that still requires filling, there are at least two players competing for each position in the team. That goes for the goalkeeper as well while although Paul is no.1 in the squad list his starting position is by not means assured if Chris Smith has anything to do with it.

"You have got to have that competition with a tough season ahead. Big Wally (Chris Smith) has lost a lot of weight to come back in great shape, we will have a battle there but the two of us work hard together and the best one will come out on top and hopefully do well for Dunfermline in the Premier League.

"He must hate the sight of me, I went to St Mirren and played there ahead of him and I hope to do the same but the big man has worked tremendously well this summer. The two of us will vie for that jersey now."

Paul is glad to be back at Dunfermline not the least because of the travelling from his home in Dunfermline to Paisley for training.

"Sometimes it was an hour and a half just getting to training which is no great preparation. The attraction of living in Dunfermline and coming back to a team I know well was there for me too. It is a new chapter now."

Paul is one of four in the current Pars squad who was in Austria in 2008 when Dunfermline last went abroad in pre season.

"There are fantastic training facilities there. That's basically all there is there, we will need to work hard and get our fitness topped up. We will take in two tough games out there as well and we are looking forward to it."
