Nick Phinn Post Clyde

Sunday, 21st Dec 2008

"It was a chance to catch up and we have not taken it. Nobody really knows what it is with our home form. It is just one of those things.

Nick Phinn

Nick Phinn's 79th minute equaliser on Saturday was his seventh goal of the season securing him in second place behind leading scorer Andy Kirk. He started briskly with goals against Stirling Albion, Peterhead and St Johnstone at the start of the season. Nick was as disappointed as everyone else to take a draw from the home league game against Clyde.

"We had chances and were going for it at the end. I suppose when you are 4-2 down you'd maybe take the draw in the end."

The match had started badly with Clyde's Man of the Match Alan Trouten nipping in to score a goal after just 29 seconds.

"The ball just dropped in to him, he took a turn and just buried it. We were shocked really and couldn't believe. I didn't see what happened for the penalty but we'll take it being one down as its a good way of getting back into the game."

The team knew when we came out at half time that the next goal would be important.

"Kirkie did great but it was just a mental game, just crazy. At 4-2 down a never say die attitude got us back into it and I was happy to hit the equaliser. Big Baynee was absolutely brilliant to knock it down. I took the first touch at my feet and the defender couldn't really touch me without it being another penalty. When the keeper came out I saw the gap to put it by him so I was happy enough."

Nick was sent tumbling just after that on the corner of the Clyde box:-

"The ref calls it as he sees it I suppose. I sort of got a touch and sort of not, my momentum took it in and maybe made it look worse. It didn't go in our favour, that was disappointing."

With Airdrie scoring a late equaliser against league leaders St Johnstone, results elsewhere again went in the Pars favour:-

"It was a chance to catch up and we have not taken it. Nobody really knows what it is with our home form. It is just one of those things. We will look at the video on Monday and try and rectify our faults."

There is a week now before Livingston come to East End Park. They defeated Queen of the South 2-0 at Almondvale to go level on points with the Pars. Nick predicted an exciting game:-

"It will be a good game next week as both teams looking to go out and get the three points."
