McGregor seeks Keane double

Thursday, 4th Feb 2010

"There is a lot of hype surrounding them and there is a lot of pressure on them just now, they are not really picking up good results and fingers crossed we can add to their problems."

Stevie Crawford and Neil McGregor

In January 2006 Neil McGregor was in the Clyde team that knocked Celtic out of the Scottish Cup, Roy Keane, Neil Lennon, John Hartson et al. Following a thigh strain sustained in the first cup match against Stenhousemuir, Neil hopes to be fit to be considered for selection on Sunday and be part of yet another cup victory over Celtic. He tried to relate that famous feat to the website:-

"I can't really remember much of the game, I just remember the celebrations after it. Obviously the boys were up for it and the game took care of itself when it came around. We wanted to play well and I guess we did that and showed that we could compete with them.

"We could have scored a couple more goals in the first half; one was disallowed for a foul that was never a foul. The other was ruled out for offside only for it to be proved later that it wasn't offside."

Now that Robbie Keane has joined Celtic, Neil has the opportunity to notch a fairly unique double but playing against Celtic even with an "R Keane" the 24 year old defender claims is just like playing any other game:-

"You don't treat it any differently it is just another eleven players. You try not to think that you are up against eleven household names that you see every other week on the telly."

After missing a week training Neil was back running on Thursday and he is optimistic that he will be able to return to form what has become a successful partnership in central defence with Andy Dowie.

"Hopefully I will be fit and be selected by the Manager but that is his decision."

Neil's optimism extends to how Dunfermline can do against Celtic:-

"There is a lot of hype surrounding them and there is a lot of pressure on them just now, they are not really picking up good results and fingers crossed we can add to their problems."

Much of the hype of course comes from the players that Celtic brought in since last Sunday and Neil added, "that only puts more expectations on them."

"It wasn't a great performance at Stenhousemuir but it was a cup tie and the main thing was to win the game. We managed to do that, just!"

Go on Neil, a double over a Keane in a Celtic strip would be one to cherish.
