09/08/08: Macca:- "We were lucky in the first half because we could have been dead and buried."

Jim McIntyre was delighted with the result after a first have that he described as "not acceptable".

"It was really strange to see the performance considering the way we played in the last couple of games and pre season. It just came out of nowhere and they were left under no illusions that it just wasn't good enough.

"We were too far off the game, we weren't pressing, as a unit we were so stretched and we were picking the wrong option for passes. If you add all those together you are going to end up getting beat."

Andy Kirk demonstrated the finishing that the Pars boss brought him to do:-

"His goals were fantastic, he took them really well but I have to give a mention to Graham Bayne because I thought he was outstanding. He is a great foil for him and had great work rate. His sublime touches in the air were just excellent.

"Second half Alex Burke and Stephen Glass were excellent. We had not been tight enough in midfield as a group. The game was far too stretched and causing us untold problems. They were managing to drop a lot of balls in to big Sean O'Connor and dragging defenders into areas which we don't like but second half we squeezed the game and they got right in people's faces. You have got to do that in this league. You must not give them time on the ball, no matter what team it is, you will get hurt if you don't pressure the ball."

The result came close to being a draw and not a win when Gary Arbuckle blazed a great chance over the crossbar in the second minute of added time:-

"I was screaming at them to get out because I thought they were too deep for the starting position. They were way too deep for the free kick but sometimes that happens. I have been on a pitch myself when you get deeper and deeper because it is the last minute. You know that but fortunately for us he put it over the bar.

"We were lucky in the first half because we could have been dead and buried."

Scott Thomson has tweaked his hamstring, the Manager told the press after the match:-

"We will just need to wait and se how that is. The same with Kevin Harper. Scott has done it just as he was about to make the challenge he felt his hamstring."

QOS boss Gordon Chisholm knew that Dunfermline would be fired up when the teams went out to restart in the second half:-

"We controlled the first half, we were comfortable, we had a couple of chances and went in 1-0 up. Second half I expected to be put under pressure. The two goals we lost were bad goals. The boy had his back to goal, he has turned and we allowed him to shoot twice.

"I wasn't happy but I just felt that was the only negative thing on the day. Jim in turn will say he scored a couple of good goals but I have got to be honest and say for me the two goals should have been defended better. The boy had his back to goal and should never have got a strike in. He has done it twice.

"I thought the attitude of the players was good, they played some good stuff. I am not saying it, maybe you can say it, I thought it was a stonewall penalty and Gary Arbuckle has missed a chance from four or five yards with two minutes to go.

"There are a lot of positives there. I was pleased by how they played but we made a couple of errors and that what happens. If you make mistakes at the back as defenders you get punished. That is exactly what happened today and it cost us the game."

The Queens boss didn't want to look ahead to his European debut on Thursday night, he was too disappointed with the 2-1 defeat:-

"I am bitterly disappointed coming away from here with nothing. We definitely should have had something today - at least a draw. At 1-0 I expected us to go on and win it."
