Managers Post Killie

Saturday, 10th Sep 2011

10/09/11: JM - "It is individual mistakes but it is not something that we can continue to do. We need to learn from them quickly because we are capable of scoring goals.

Jim McIntyre in the stand

Jim McIntyre started off by explaining why he had been sent to the stand after just 20 minutes of the match at Kilmarnock:-

"I had a bottle in my hand at the time and a decision didn't go our way so I was frustrated and threw it down. The fourth official decided to send me to the stand. It is my own fault and I apologised to the fourth official concerned.  I shouldn't be doing that."

Jim McIntyre is sent to the stand by Referee Brian Winter

It was the Pars second SPL defeat in a row but the gaffer thought that there had been a lot of good football played:-

"We tried to play the game in the right manner which made for an entertaining game - probably too open for both managers. There was some really good stuff played today."

The Manager always says that the first goal in any game is important but at Kilmarnock the last one proved to be even more important:-

"We had a really good chance after the first to extend our lead. Normally Kirkie would put them away, he maybe took a wee bit long on it and we hit the post as well. So we started the game well and we were pleased with that. Credit to Kilmarnock; we knew what a good footballing side they are with the way Kenny has got them playing.

"We knew that they would cause us problems at times but you have got to handle that and try and cause them problems. I thought we did that well today but we have got to defend better. We lost four goals to Motherwell; it is not goals where we are being carved open it is individual mistakes but it is not something that we can continue to do. We need to learn from them quickly because we are capable of scoring goals. We need to tighten up and I don't just mean the back four but as a team.

"There was some really good football today and I think it is what punters want to see. Managers are judged on results but the be all and end all for us is trying to get three points. We have not done that today and we need to show the players the positive as well and how well they have played at times."

Kilmarnock v Dunfermline

Macca confirmed that his half time substitutions - John Potter for Alex Keddie and Ryan Thomson for Craig Easton - were for tactical reasons.

"We felt we needed a wee change to give us a wee spark. I felt it did and it was a fantastic header from Ryan. A good ball in and he put it away with aplomb."

Kilmarnock Manager Kenny Shiels

Kilmarnock manager Kenny Shiels was delighted with the win but still rather subdued when he spoke to the press:

"I have got mixed feelings, the performance and outcomes is what it is about. The performance was mixed but the outcome was brilliant because we wanted to take the three points at home. In certain areas we were exceptional but in other areas it was poor. It was important that we got ourselves into the position where we are creeping away from the bottom of the league."

The Killie manager has a points target of 45 points from the 27 games before the SPL split:-

"I've said before it's going to take time to get to the level where I want us to be. Before I made a personal target of averaging a point and two-thirds a game and we are slightly beneath that at the moment without having played the Old Firm."
