Manager warns over social media

Sunday, 26th Aug 2012

25/08/12: JJ - "It is a warning to players when they dabble with Facebook and Twitter, you risk your profile as a football player.

Andy Kirk v Airdrie United

Jim Jefferies felt that the win at Airdrie was a welcome end to what had been a difficult week for the Club off the field.

"It was an unfortunate incident, it is in the process of being dealt with. We have made a statement about the Paul Willis picture. It was just somebody trying to create something that wasn't right. Yes it was a homeless person but these players would never ever do that to someone in that position. I was shocked when I saw it myself but their explanation was perfectly understandable because there was an attraction there with these animals.

"I believe they were getting their picture taken with a dog and a ferret.  I said to them on Thursday I have dealt with some things in my 26 years in football but there is a first for everything!

"There have been witnesses come forward from there saying that it is genuine. The lady is well known and the animals are part of the set up. The boys were distraught when it was suggested that they were having a go at a homeless person. So Paul Willis will be back in training on Monday.

"It is a warning to players when they dabble with Facebook and Twitter you risk your profile as a football player. We have advised that you have to be extremely careful and watch what you are doing because things can be picked up in the wrong way, as has happened in this case.

"The Ryan Thomson situation is in the legal process. We have had an investigatory meeting and now it is for him to come back having looked through the record with his advisers or union rep and make sure that he is happy with it.

"It will then go to a disciplinary committee and we cannot say or do anything until that process is complete. Ryan will stay away until it is all resolved."
