Dunfermline Athletic

Manager on Thursday

Thursday, 5th Feb 2015

John Potter's weekly interview with the website was at the Excelsior Stadium, Airdrie after his under 20 team had lost 3-0 to Celtic

The manager felt that the defeat was a bit harsh and told his team not to be deflated by the scoreline because they had played well:-

"We lost a sloppy goal from a free kick. It was a poor pass from Declan and Stuart got his body in the road. I can see why a free kick was given but for the last twenty five minutes of the first half I thought we played well. Second half I thought that we were the better team for most of it. The goals came from a penalty kick and a mistake by Jamie.

"All the goals were avoidable while we got into good areas, made good chances but didn't take them. We passed the ball really well and I am really happy with the boys, their fitness and the way they played. There were just small bits of the game that were disappointing but there positives to take from the game.

"I thought Stuart Urquhart was good at the back. He has had wee niggles and not really had a decent run so I am going to give him a lot of game time in the next two or three games. Hopefully we can get him back competing, it was his best game for a while. Ryan Thomson too did well in the middle of the park."

There is no league match on Saturday due to intended opponents, Brechin City's continued involvement in the William Hill Scottish Cup. Instead Potts will take an Under 20 side to play Cowdenbeath at Central Park:-

"We will freshen it up a wee bit but it will be mixture. Monday's game is against Rangers so a lot of these boys will play three games in five or six days but it will be good for their fitness because they have not being playing much recently."

The manager is still hoping to add to his squad with his eye on bringing in one or two players on loan. "We need to wait and see what happens this weekend then we will take it from there."
