20/08/16: AJ- "There was a lot of good stuff but we certainly have to learn from the mistakes that we are making."

Allan Johnston dismissed a somewhat controversial suggestion that his team didn`t get going in the 2-0 defeat to Raith Rovers.

"We probably had more chances than Raith Rovers. At the chances we had, we obviously weren`t clinical enough.

"Raith Rovers looked dangerous on the counterattack. It was always going to be first goal the winner for both teams and we were unfortunate to lose a really poor goal."

The manager agreed that Dunfermline lost as a result of not scoring when they were on top.

"We had really good opportunities that we have to score from. To be fair I thought Ryan Williamson was different class today and caused all sorts of problems up and down the right wing. He did really well but you have to turn your chances into goals or you end up paying the price.

"The goals came from good finishes but the first one was far too easy and we have to learn from the mistakes that we are making. We obviously shouldn`t let them inside in the last third. People have to get to the ball quicker and stop the shot.

There wasn`t much between the teams but Allan Johnston stressed that the team needs to defend better:-

"We are losing far too many goals. We are creating enough chances but you need to make sure that you finish them off."

The opposition keeper Aaron Lennox was struggling with a hamstring injury but he did not come under as much pressure as would have been liked. AJ continued:-

"We had enough chances but we never took them. We never worked the keeper enough for all the chances we had. A lot of them were off target, a lot of them were defended well by Raith Rovers. We have to give them a bit of credit for the way they defended. Maybe that is something that we can learn from - the way they defended in the last third."

Allan felt for the 2519 Pars fans who had made the trip to Kirkcaldy for the match:-

"There are another three games to go against Raith Rovers so we are looking forward to them. It was a brilliant atmosphere and it must have been a good game for the neutrals to watch. It was exciting.

"Raith probably started better in the opening ten minutes and they put in a few dangerous crosses. Then I thought we got hold of the game and it looked as though we were going to score. It looked like we were the better team and that continued until half time.

"There was a lot of good stuff but we certainly have to learn from the mistakes that we are making."
