Manager Post Montrose

18/01/11: JM - "We are in the next round and we can forget what went on in the second half. We played some great stuff, let's not forget that

Jim McIntyre felt that his side played some really good stuff in knocking Montrose out of the Scottish Cup:-

"Going forward we were a treat to watch at times. Our attitude, our tempo was spot on. We spoke about how important it was to start the game with fast pace and I think we did that. The only criticism is that we should have been four or five up at half time but we never took our chances.

"When the boys came out we lost a sloppy goal right away but responded well to that by going on to take a handsome lead. Then we just seemed to switch off and gave away some bad goals. Wullie Gibson did excellent tonight, he was the heart of everything but there were a lot of positive performances tonight. The bigger issue is that we also lost our goalkeeper to a red card; it was just a case of switching off."

Chris Smith is sent off

Macca had seen the play back of the recording by the time he added:-

"It is very similar to the one Montrose had when David Graham was brought down but their player was level with David Graham, the other player who was coming in was slightly behind. I can see why the ref has given it but it is slightly harsh at the same time.

"I have spoken to the referee and had a look at it but he agrees that it is still a red card so we won't appeal it. I think Chris will miss the next league game because it was a straight red.

"We are in the next round and we can forget what went on in the second half. We played some great stuff, let's not forget that and we have Aberdeen to look forward to in the next round. It will also be much needed revenue for the Club.

"We did well that last time (at Aberdeen) to get into the semis after the replay when we managed to beat them. It will be a really tough game; the roles are reversed now, Aberdeen are the favourites and we go up there as the underdogs but we will look forward to that game."
