Andy Geggan celebrated his 27th birthday on Thursday and the Centenary Club Lifeline Player of the Year award on Saturday night but the celebration he really wants is a promotion party. Two goals from the Pars captain set up his side for the Championship play off final against local rivals, Cowdenbeath. Dunfermline have won 18 of the last 20 matches between the teams including the most recent 3-1 in the Ramsden Cup at Central Park in July last year.
Andy was still smiling from ear to ear when he talked through the extra time victory over Stranraer with the media after the game
"We did what we had to do. We knew that we had to get that one goal back and that would take us to extra time. The boys were absolutely tremendous but I thought we could have finished it in the first half. I had a couple of chances myself but I was just glad to get the winner that puts us in the final."
There were concerns that Geggs might not have been fit for this game after requiring a visit to the hospital before leaving Stranraer on Wednesday night! He explained:-
"I don`t know who it was, somebody kicked me in the kidneys during the game. My chest was tightening up and I was getting shooting pains. I couldn`t go on and because there wasn`t a doctor at the game, I had to get rushed off to hospital.
"They put pads on me just to check my heart out but as you saw today I was alright! I felt a little on my side during the game today but if I had died after the game I wouldn`t have cared as long as we got through"
Andy has now scored 11 goals this season and is keen to add to that total in the two leg Championship play off final. He continued:-
"We have just two games left and we want to get up there. They are going to be the biggest games of our lives; the boys will rest up and we will definitely be ready for it.
"I don`t know much about Cowdenbeath other than the boy Hemmings is on fire now. It wouldn`t have bothered me whether it was Cowdenbeath or Ayr United, we can take anybody.
"We want to be up in the Championship next season for it will be an unbelievable league and is important financially. If we get through it will be a great boost for Dunfermline."
