Dunfermline Athletic

Loss greater than three points

Monday, 14th Sep 2015

Michael Moffat:- "It is not good to lose players like that, especially the captain

"Any time you get beaten you are never happy with the result but given the performance on another day we would have scored three or four goals. The keeper has had a few good saves and with a bit of luck we would have had goals. It just wasn't to be today. We just have to pick ourselves up for next week and go again."

Michael recalled some of the chances that got away from him in the match:-

"The keeper touched one round the post, then he saved Joe Cardle's shot and the rebound just wasn't set up for me. 1-0 down at half time we were in the game but the second goal gave them something to hold on to. We kept going but in the end but it just wasn't to be."

The result took Ayr above Dunfermline in the league table for the first time this season and restored Forfar Athletic at the top as a result of their win at Brechin. Michael agreed that Ayr could be real challengers in the race for promotion this season:-

"They are going well. They lost their first game but have been unbeaten since. These are the games that you want to win against the team's round about you. We had a good performance against Forfar last week who will probably be up there as well.

"When I was a player at Ayr we never beat Dunfermline, even last season when I was here they didn't manage to get a result against us, it has been quite a while."

Michael gave his account of what he saw in the incident where captain Callum Fordyce was seriously injured:-

"The ref didn't give a foul so I think it was more awkward than anything else. I don't know if he has maybe landed on the ball with his leg underneath him. We heard that it is another broken leg so that is obviously disappointing.

"The boys are gutted about that. It was a bad one and there were a lot of boys head in hands when you see something like that happening on the pitch. We just hope that it is not as bad as we think especially with big Ryan Williamson doing the same a couple of weeks ago.

"I just saw him signalling to the bench and I think everybody knew themselves that it was a bad one due to his reaction. He was obviously in a bit of pain and signalling for the physio to come on straight away."

The prospect of both Ryan Williamson and Callum Fordyce for some time, plus Lewis Spence still out after dislocating his collar bone, has to have an adverse effect on such a small first team squad. The striker agreed:-

"It is not good to lose players like that, especially the captain - he will be a big blow and I don't know if the manager will need to bring somebody else in to help out defensively. We are a bit thin at the back so we will probably need one or two more in."
