Josh Falkingham post Stranraer

Monday, 28th Oct 2013

"I am delighted with the goal for myself but more importantly the three points are massive."

Josh says

Captain Josh Falkingham scored the winning goal on Saturday at Stranraer and he revealed afterwards that he was relieved to get the win on the back of two bad ones:-

"They were really tough conditions and we went one down. It is becoming a common thing but to come from behind and scrape out two goals and three points. Given the travel that you do, to get a result of any kind at Stranraer is always a positive result. I am absolutely delighted."

Josh's 69th minute goal made that delight possible. He was really happy to be back on the scoresheet with what was his second goal of the season.

"With it being the winner it makes it that much sweeter. I didn't catch it that well but for me those are the best ones if they scramble in rather than hit a 30 yarder. I would take them all day. I am delighted with the goal for myself but more importantly the three points are massive."

weather closed in during the latter stages of the second half

It was a great result in the wet and windy conditions in South West Scotland and the players could have been excused for being tardy on taking the field on Saturday since between going in after the warm up and coming back out for the kick off, the rain had intensified and the wind even stronger. It was a horrid October day for football. Josh continued:-

"The way we like to play means it is a burden for us, it becomes more of a battle than a game of football. That's what you are going to get, especially in Scotland. I am used to that now - you are not going to get sunshine all the year round.

Josh

"You need to roll up your sleeves and dig in. For the likes of myself I do not mind that and you saw on Saturday that there are eleven boys who are young lads but they have rolled their sleeves up as well. They have dug in and dug out the right result."

Josh is also keen to lose the young inexperience team tag as an excuse, he continued:-

"We are not young boys any more, we have experience of the First Division and in the Second Division now we are getting really quickly used to it. We know what we are expecting to come up against experienced sides.

Josh Falkingham

"To come up against a Stranraer team who have been on a good run, you could see the confidence in them - in the first half especially -and dig deep. I thought in the second half we were excellent."

The result was probably more significant in the bigger picture; important for more than just the three league points. Josh felt that it proved that there was no dip in form and away games against Elgin City and then Rangers can be approached with no fear:-

"It is a massive one for confidence going into the games that we have coming up. It is important that the fans didn't think there was a bit of a slump because coming off three bad results with no points you are desperate for the next game and desperate for points. In that sense it is a massive result.

"We are delighted with the result and delighted that the club is also going in the right direction. On the park it is as well since there are a lot of good young players come out of this."

Josh Falkingham

The Pars fans 260 mile round trip was acknowledged by the captain who had found them inspirational :-

"I looked over with about two minutes to go and they definitely give you a lift. When you have boys with their tops off when it is absolutely chucking it down, in Stranraer - miles away from Dunfermline - it gives you a massive lift to see that. We could see how delighted they were at the end and how delighted we were.

"The fans have played a massive part this season and you could see that last week when there were over 3000 at the game. We are disappointed for the fans when we get bad results. We believe that we have to give them something back so for the fans who travelled down, we are delighted for them to go back up the road with a smile on their faces too."
