Jimmy Calderwood returns to East End Park

Former Pars boss will be the special guest in the Purvis Suite for this Saturday's match

Former Pars manager Jimmy Calderwood will be Saturday’s Special Guest in the Purvis Suite.

Jimmy Calderwood was born in Glasgow in February 1955 but earned the title of "foreign coach" since all his prior managerial experience was in Holland.

A player with Birmingham City whom he joined in July 1971. Made his football league debut against Stoke City in November 1972. He played 159 matches for Birmingham mainly at right back, scored 5 goals and gained representative honours playing for Scotland U23s. His association with Birmingham ended after their relegation in May 1979 after a short loan spell with Cambridge United, he signed for Sparta Rotterdam and he has remained in Holland until his appointment at the Pars.

After initially carving out a playing career that lasted a further ten years with Sparta, Willem II (1980-82), Roda JC (1982-88) and SC Heracles (1988-89), he took up his first coaching appointment in 1991 with amateurs Rietvogels.

He moved on to be Assistant Coach for FC Zwolle, he was Assistant and then in charge of Cambuur Leeuwarden, assistant at Willem II, and in 1996 he was appointed Head Coach and then Chief Coach of NEC Nijmegan from July 1997. During his time at NEC they achieved their highest Eredivisie finish in 21 years.

After his appointment at East End Park in 1999, he achieved promotion to the SPL within 5 months and built upon the success year on year. In season 2003/04, Jimmy lead the Pars to a fourth place finish and of course the Scottish Cup final.

Jimmy moved on from the Pars in the summer of 2004, joining Aberdeen. During his tenure at Pittodrie he lead Aberdeen past Christmas in he UEFA Cup, where they faced German giants Bayern Munich. The first leg at Pittodrie ended in a 2-2 draw, with Bayern twice equalising. The second leg however proved less successful ending in a 5-1 defeat.

After Jimmy left Aberdeen he has managed Kilmarnock, Ross County, Go Ahead Eagles and De Graafschap.
