Dunfermline Athletic

Jim Herriot

Signed in October 1958 from Douglasdale Juniors by the then manager Andy Dickson. Played 136 games for the Pars including 12 European ties, before he was transferred in May 1965 to Birmingham City for £18,000.

Initially he shared the Number One jersey with Eddie Connachan, but when Connachan moved to Middlesborough in August 1963, Jim made the position his own. His performances between the sticks earned him two Scottish League caps, against the League of Ireland and the Irish League. Later, whilst playing for Birmingham, he played eight times for Scotland.

Jim also played for Dunfermline in the 1965 Scottish Cup final defeat against Celtic. His final game for the Pars came four days after the final, when some revenge for the defeat was exacted, and Dunfermline hammered Celtic 5-1.

He briefly returned to East End Park on loan from Partick Thistle in March/April 1976, to play in all 8 of the Pars Spring Cup ties.

Jim played in the first three rounds of the 1961 cup run, before losing his place to Eddie Connachan in the Quarter Final.

His name was famously copied by the author of the same name.
