Jamie McCunnie Post Dundee United

Saturday, 19th Aug 2006

"It would have been nice to have come back and get three points. I enjoyed coming back here it's a really good atmosphere....."

Jamie McCunnie was at Dundee United for four years from the age of 16 and now, at his second club since leaving in July 2003, he was returning to play at Tannadice for the very first time, so it was no surprise that he commented:-

"It would have been nice to have come back and get three points. I enjoyed coming back here it's a really good atmosphere and a really good club but I'm disappointed that we never got three points."

David McCracken and Stuart Duff remain from Jamie McCunnie's days was an Arab. They both played in McCunnie's last match at Tannadice as a United player when a Marvin Andrews goal three minutes from time gave Livingston all three points. Ironically the United team that day back on 15th March 2003 also included current Pars players Andy Tod and Jim McIntyre. Jamie added:-

"There is no bitter taste here, I like this place and I still stay in Dundee." He reflected about the game's vital 18th minute:-

"We should have scored from the penalty but it just one of those things that happen in games; we did alright in the first half but we died a death a wee bit in the second. We never created as many chances as we did in the first.

"I don't know how we are going to go about changing that, it is up to the Manager and the Coaching staff. On the training ground tomorrow we will speak about it and try to find a way to change it.

"I am not going to blame the strikers because obviously we have a lot of strikers injured at the moment, it will be different when we get a settled striking pairing. Big Andy (Tod) is playing up there, he is not a striker but he is doing a good job for us at the moment. If we can get a few boys back soon hopefully we can kick start things.

"Yes there were more injuries today but we are just fed up talking about it to be honest, it keeps happening so there's no point moaning about it. We have just got to play; we are still going to have 11 boys on the park on Tuesday night and next Saturday."

Jamie keeps a close eye on the Dunfermline Under 19s watching several matches in their recent Fife Youth Cup success at St Andrews and he has no reservations should injuries mean that the Under 19s might need to be raided for first team appearances:-

"I was just a youngster myself not so long ago and I have seen the youngsters coming through. There is no reason why if they get the chance that they would let themselves down. I don't think that is the case at all and do really well."

Next up is the CIS Insurance Cup tie against Ayr United and Jamie was oblivious of Dunfermline's defeat ay Ayr the last time the clubs met in a Cup tie back in January 2003:-

"I didn't know that but when I was at Dundee United we got a hard time down there too and got put out the Cup there by a strong Ayr team that did really well and got to the Semi Final that year. It is going to be difficult but hopefully we can get the victory to take us through to the next round."

Jamie McCunnie at Tannadice

Maybe Jamie should have recalled that Pars defeat since he played in both United's first match and the replay and it was in that same 2001-02 Scottish Cup campaign. It would seem that memories of all sorts can be totally erased with a win at Somerset Park on Tuesday night!
