Graham Bayne Post Ayr

Sunday, 6th Dec 2009

"We have been going about our work quietly just sneaking along there, clawing ourselves back up the league but then people started to notice and more becomes expected of you.

Ayr United v Dunfermline

Graham Bayne spoke after the defeat at Ayr on Saturday:-

"We knew what it was going to be like before we came down here, it was always going to be a battle and I thought Ayr deserved the win.

"They are a good side and all the reports that we have heard about Ayr sounded a bit like us at the start of the season. They have been playing well enough but they have not been picking up the points that they deserved. They can feel fully justified in taking their three points today. They scored the goal in what was a pretty scrappy game."

Manager Jim McIntyre described his team as a bit shot shy and Graham, scorer of three goals in the previous four games agreed with his Manager's assessment:-

"There was a couple of times I was guilty of that in the first half, I maybe should have shot a bit quicker or looked to see if there was a pass on - I maybe just let fly. When the wide players were cutting in across the 18 they could maybe have a hit but we were trying to score too perfect a goal at times. That's not the only reason but we failed to score and we know our quality and final pass just wasn't there. Sometimes that happens, it is just up to us to pick it up for the next game."

After eight games unbeaten Graham expressed the feelings of the team:-

"Of course it's sore but it happens. We have been going about our work quietly just sneaking along there, clawing ourselves back up the league but then people started to notice and more becomes expected of you. We have created that and we have to deal with that better. There is no point in moaning about it now, there is nothing we can do about it now. Ayr deserved the victory and we have to move on to our next two big home games."

Graham was substituted with twenty minutes to go at Somerset Park but he revealed that was something that he and the Manager had discussed:-

"At half time he saw that I was struggling from the other night and thought it was best to freshen it up. I think he made the right decision in doing that, it was a chance to get fresh legs on and I think it was the correct decision to be honest."
