Gozie Kens the route to success

Gozie Ugwu has only been in Fife since 1st August but with the odd exception he is getting to grips with the Scottish League and the Scottish accent.

The 21 year old Englishman has settled in well to life at Dunfermline but admits that the dialect often confuses him.

"I have got used to it but I still have to ask the boys about words like dinnie or canny. The use of 'ken' confuses."

Having accepted that ken is not one of his team mates he told this website just how he feels about moving north from Reading:-

"I am enjoying it here and enjoying playing my football at the moment. The boys and the coaches are all great and I am learning from the coaches because they have a lot of experience in the game. They are a young squad and we are getting on well."

Scottish football is miles better in comparison to the English League but that is perhaps only when gauged in distances to away games:-

"When I was at Reading we considered a journey of an hour and a half to two hours as alright. Here that is considered quite a far journey. It is a good thing because I do not like long journeys."

So for the player who knows more about Maidenhead, Leatherhead and even Gateshead, Peterhead on Saturday will be a new experience:-

"It is not going to be an easy test I heard. We will just play our game and try and get a good result. We are looking to make a big improvement on last week's performance, we have to look at what we did wrong and learn from it. It was a disappointment not just that we lost, but that we didn't play our game or perform the way we are used to."

With three goals in nine appearances Gozie is desperately keen to score more in front of the home fans who last saw him score a brace against Airdrieonians, he added:-

"I want to score in every game, that is the main aim as a striker. If it's not that, I am just looking to help the team in any way possible, just putting in 100 per cent every game to get the win that we are looking for. The win is the main thing, especially after last week's game."

As for his opponents Gozie says that they are all different:-

"I have come across some defenders who are not as physical as me but then I have come across some that are. It varies each game. Morton were very physical guys and good in the air. You have to adjust according to who you come up against."

Linking up with fellow striker, Michael Moffat is key to Gozie's success and he paid tribute to the former Ayr United player who was League One top goalscorer last season:-

"I started training with Moff' a few weeks ago and as the weeks have been going in we have been getting more accustomed to each other, used to each other's movements. He is a great player, great finisher and works hard for the team."
