Geggan's return adds bite but not delight
Monday, 26th Jan 2015"There are fifteen games to go and we need to win all fifteen.
After sitting out the last two matches serving out his suspension for his red card against Peterhead, Andy Geggan returned against Morton and caused his opponents considerable concerns with his timed runs.
"I thought we started off very well, the boys knew what their jobs were it was just that we didn't finish the chances we had. I had a couple in the first half, I thought my first one was in and the second one I should just have smashed at goal with my head. I tried to guide it in but it was very disappointing. At corners I am always in there or thereabouts trying to get on the end of things but I cannot wait until one of those goes in."
Andy thought that Dunfermline had thoroughly tested Morton in the first half but the second half style had been more speculative with the ball lumped up towards Andy Barrowman.
"If we had finished our first half chances it would have been a totally different game. Unfortunately we never finished them and they got the goals, they were more clinical than us but there are definitely positives to take from this game.
"Obviously it is another defeat and we do need to pick it up now. There are plenty of games to go, we just need to get that first win and hopefully kick on from there."
The competition not just for the league title and the automatic promotion that comes with it but also for play off places is still very open. Even seventh placed Airdrieonians have their eye on getting into the top four come May. How all this pans out will depend on the outcome of a lot of head to heads and Andy considers that others can help the Pars quest to climb the league:-
"If you look at the league table there are a few teams who have gone on a run and heir run has ended. We haven't gone on a run, we haven't even started yet. There are fifteen games to go and we need to win all fifteen. Our aim is to keep ourselves up there and in the mix."
Andy cannot put his finger on why the team can look so good in training but then struggle to win matches.
"The boys are absolutely brilliant in training but when it comes to the game we just can't get that final bit. Don't get me wrong, the boys are definitely not a million miles away. Once we get that win, even by one goal then we will kick on.
"We have boys who can dig in and get results it is just trying to get that first result. If we had scored in the first half against Morton it would have been a totally different game."
