Gary Mason Post Motherwell

Gary Mason put in a hard shift at Motherwell linking up well in midfield and being greatly involved in both penalty boxes. He was very heartened by his team's first half performance but admitted the two Motherwell goals in the third quarter of the match knocked the stuffing out of the Pars:-

"The penalty gave them a lift. Their heads went up and it probably shouldn't have happened."

The penalty in the fifth minute of the second half, came as a bit of a shock:-

"I didn't see it properly. Phil could maybe have won it but I don't think he left his leg in. The response after that wasn't good enough and it is disappointing for the fans who have come here. There was a great support."

The 1200 strong travelling support surprised Motherwell who had decided to accommodate the home fans within the Main Stand for this match. Gary said that the players all felt the same about the way the supporters had been let down:-

"The fans were a different class, absolutely magnificent. That is why all the lads are disappointed. They are disappointed with the way the second half went.

"After that we had a couple of half chances but after the first half without creating too much but having a decent amount of the play. In the second half we just didn't seem to get going. Following the first half we had, it just shows you how goals can change games."

After Scott McDonald's 62nd minute second goal there appeared to be no way back for the Pars with both the players and fans heads going down:-

"When the goal goes in, it was the reaction. You are deflated with the position you are in but we just need to keep going."

The sad thing about Gary's fine performance against Motherwell is that his midfield partner is not allowed to play in the next two games, both of which are against Hibernian.

"With Stephen Glass sitting there it gives me opportunities. The more bodies in the box, sometimes the better it can be. I managed to get my head on one of them.

"We have a big one next week at home after a good win against Inverness that is more disappointing as well. No disrespect to Motherwell I think we showed in the first half that we were the better side for most of it but they have walked away looking like comfortable winners. We will stay confident and keep positive."
