First senior goal for Lewis Martin

Lewis Martin scores v Rangers

Listen to Lewis` interview

Lewis Martin's first senior goal was the equaliser in Saturday's match against Rangers. The advice on how to make an impact however had not come from Jim Jefferies or even John Potter instead he revealed that he had been instructed by his postman father;-

"Before the game my dad told me to attack from the back. I stayed round the back and saw what was going on then just attacked it."

The advice was sound and not uninformed since his father David Martin had played centre back for Alloa, St Johnstone and Dumbarton. Lewis' only other goal - also a header from a corner - came in May last year when he scored in the Under 20s final game of the season against Hearts. Now he hopes to get a chance in the play offs.

The Dunfermline team that drew with Rangers was basically a reserve team since none of the starting eleven at Arbroath the previous Saturday started. Lewis felt that the wholesale changes actually worked in their favour:-

"That team has played together for the under twenties and with Potts and Dargs great experience it helped us along. The boys are absolutely delighted with the result and felt they defended really well.

"We knew that we could get something out of the game and when we did, we were all happy."

The possibility of shattering Rangers all season long unbeaten league record acted as an incentive after the 70th minute equaliser hit the net:-

"When it went to one each we tried that final push but really couldn't get it. We were happy with the draw."

The woodwork denied Rangers of a winning goal after John Potter deflected a shot on to it, Lewis added:-

"I thought it was going in but saw it hit the post, thank God it hit the post!
