Farid - a friend in the foe?

Higgy hopes Farid is the loser as Pars chase wins and the more the better

Kallum Higginbotham is well aware that Saturday`s opponents are just seven points behind sixth placed Pars. Despite everyone at the club stresses that they are looking upwards, Kallum conceded:-

"It is quite tight down at the bottom, if we go and get the win on Saturday that would give us a big cushion. St Mirren are picking up a head of steam now and I think they will catch the teams above them.

So far this season the matches against Ayr have returned five points out of a possible nine. Two draws and one win have kept going what is a good record against Ayr United. Kallum continued:-

"The more wins that we can get the better chance of us not being involved down at the bottom. I don`t think we will be but if we can get that win on Saturday then it gives us quite a big cushion and we can go and enjoy the rest of the games for the season."

Kallum feels that the run of one defeat in eighteen matches is impressive but there needs to be more wins in the mix.

"We could have turned some of those draws into wins but there were games when we could have lost but came away with a draw. It evens itself out over the course of the season. Over the last couple of weeks we have been playing really well and hopefully we can go and express that on Saturday.

"No disrespect to Ayr but when we are at home, we are looking to beat teams that are down at the bottom." He did not view last Saturday as such a big surprise:-

"People expected us to go to Paisley and beat St Mirren because they were bottom of the league. They beat Hibs last week and beat Dundee United this week so it shows you how tough a task it was.

"We could have come away from there with three points and no one could have had anything to say but they could have won the three points as well. I think a draw on the day was a fair result."

Saturday will see Farid El Alagui return for the first time since leaving Dunfermline. Kallum played with him not just at East End Park but while they were both Falkirk players and even when Farid went down south for a spell they have always kept in close contact. Nevertheless it was a bit of a surprise all round when Farid signed for Ayr.

"It will be good for him to come back, good to play against him and hopefully he doesn`t score any goals. He will get a good reception from our fans as well.

"He didn`t play as much as he would have liked. He needed to play and he was getting frustrated with lack of game time as any player would. Hopefully on Saturday he is on the losing end and we can be friends again come quarter to five."

At the end of the season Kallum Higginbotham`s contract at Dunfermline ends but he has not yet had any discussions about next season.

"I need to get my head down and take it from there. I have said all along that I love it here. It is a great club and I love coming in training every single day. I am playing on a Saturday so there is no reason why I couldn`t re-sign here, it is down to the gaffer if he wants me.

"He has spoken to no one so it is not just a case of not speaking to me. We can still push for a play off place and until it is mathematically impossible then that is always going to be our aim. Once we are safe and the play offs places are known then we can start thinking about contracts."
