Defeat hard to take for Josh

Sunday, 9th Dec 2012

"I told the referee that I thought it was a definite penalty and he said to me that it would have been soft.

Josh Falkingham

Josh Falkingham revealed that there was a real sense of disappointment in the changing room after the defeat at Livingston on Saturday:-

"The sending off changed it massively. It was disastrous because we were dictating the game early doors and had come out of the blocks faster. We were passing it about well on a good surface but then Callum made a rash challenge, he knows that himself. I don't think he touches the boy but nowadays in football if you leave the floor you are gone.

"Even though with ten men we should have scored. I have seen Dargo score plenty and the front boys know themselves that maybe on another day they would have tucked it away. Maybe if we did get a 1-0 lead, the mentality changes completely. We could maybe sit in behind the ball and grind out a result."

The ability for the ten men to take something out of the match was further hampered by a dubious refereeing decision in which Craig Dargo ended up yellow carded for being taken down in the penalty box:-

"Obviously as the game panned out, we missed the chances that we had and Livingston got the opener. Me and Dargs were near to the centre half (Garcia) and I don't know which of us could get out quicker but he was 30 to 35 yards out. For us after all the pressure they had put us under,  we thought  'hey its one of them that never normally works' and we were happy for him to take a shot.  But he caught it well and it dipped right at the last minute. There was no blame to put on the keeper because it was just a great finish that you get every now and then.

"At the second goal we were stretched and a few of the boys are saying that maybe it was offside. For me it was a tough one. If we don't win every game we are disappointed. That is the mentality of our group; it is just a third defeat but any points that we drop are a real disappointment. We believe that we can win every game but we don't need to get too down about it. Given that we were playing for a long time with just ten men, we applied ourselves well."

"It was a definite penalty ref"
"We will not blame referees but I thought it was a penalty."

The 65th minute decision not to award a penalty to Dunfermline was wrong in Josh's eyes:-

"I told the referee that I thought it was a definite penalty and he said to me that it would have been soft. Dargs and myself are slight. It was a bit clumsy for me and you cannot do that in the box. We will not blame referees but I thought it was a penalty."
