Craig Brewster Post Ross County

Monday, 23rd Feb 2009

"I had just under two and a half very enjoyable seasons at Dunfermline, extremely enjoyable. The fans obviously still remember that and it was a nice gesture from them to give me that reception."

Former Dunfermline striker Craig Brewster received a standing ovation from both sets of fans as he left the pitch on Saturday. In his first game for Ross County since his sacking as manager of struggling Inverness Caley Thistle Brew put in an amazing shift, scored the opening goal and ended up on the winning side.

The 42-year-old whose last match on the park was on 25th September 2007 praised his new club:-

"I thought it was a very good team performance, we were solid and got the bonus of a goal just before half time. That put pressure on them; their fans got a bit disappointed.

"We started OK in the second half but it was a great header from Graham Bayne.

"We didn't panic and got a bit of a rub of the green when Hart's cross took a deflection right into the path of Higgins. It was nice and then we were comfortable after that.

"Ask any of the players and they will say that was an enjoyable game for them today. You go through games and you struggle and it doesn't go well but today everybody worked hard for each other and he got the reward."

Following his recent sacking as manager by Inverness Caley Thistle, Dyron Daal's absence made way for the former Dunfermline favourite to grace the East End Park surface for the first time since August 2005.

"I've put in a lot of hard work in 42 years to still be playing. I get a lot of buzz from playing and I enjoyed that today.

"It is just pleasing I can still run about. I know how to play the game, my touch has always been good, I could never run very fast - that doesn't leave you.

"I know how to play the game, my touch has always been good and I have never been able to run very fast, so I can't lose that.

"It is nothing against former clubs, all you are trying to do is to do a job for your team, your team mates and the manager."

Free from the stress of football management Brew will just enjoy from now until the end of the season and wait and see what happens to his career after that.

"As a player coach you go on that park, get on at your team mates but you do not have the added pressures about worrying about every single position and every single little thing before games."

Often former players return to be booed by their former clubs but there was no such treatment from the Dunfermline fans on Saturday. There was a large number of locals on their feet to join the Ross County supporters to give Craig a standing ovation when he left the field with three minutes remaining to be replaced by John Stewart:-

"I had just under two and a half very enjoyable seasons at Dunfermline, extremely enjoyable. The fans obviously still remember that and it was a nice gesture from them to give me that reception."
