Calum Woods Post QOS

"The formation changed and we went to 3-5-2 and that allowed us all to push on. Even things like second balls we were winning and that was much better in the second half

Calum Woods found himself much further up the park in the second half of Saturday's match against Queen of the South. After the switch to a 3-5-2 he operated as a very effective wing back, laying on a number of crucial passes:-

"I've played there at youth team level and really enjoyed playing there but really enjoy playing at the back a bit more. It's a good position to play but just as long as I'm playing.

"We wanted to finish the season on a high and then get back in pre-season and work as hard as we can for next season and get back in the SPL. We were a bit lethargic in the first half but then the game seemed to open up."

The match certainly changed with Jim McIntyre's substitution in 47th minute. Sol Bamba came on in defence allowing Calum to get further forward:-

"The Manager was laughing himself saying he was the problem. The formation changed and we went to 3-5-2 and that allowed us all to push on. Even things like second balls we were winning and that was much better in the second half."

Despite Queen of the South finishing fourth the Pars have taken ten points of them this season. Calum observed:-

"Queens are a good team but when we play them we seem to do well."

With the final match of the season Dunfermline will be losing several more players; Mark Burchill, Stephen Simmons, Stevie Crawford and possibly Darren Young if contract talks are not concluded satisfactorily.

"We've got a few boys leaving so we'll definitely miss them, they have good experience behind them but hopefully the players that come in will do a good job for us.

"There are some good young lads here. As you saw today a couple of them came on and Iain Williamson started, Paul Willis came on and Stuart Dearden as well. He's been doing well. He's been playing for the reserves every week.

"It's a pity to be finishing the season but it's always good to finish on a high and to be confident for next season. I've signed a new two-year deal so I'm really happy with that and I'm looking forward to next season.

"Greg Shields and Greg Ross are good players but all I want to do is stay in the team and keep playing every week and do well.

"I can see the team having a much better season next year. With Macca coming in the second half has been much better that the first so hopefully we can keep on improving and start the season well. We definitely need to score more goals and be more creative in their half."

Calum will be following his home team in their Champions League Semi Final against Chelsea but will not be following them to the Final should Liverpool make that again:-

"I've already booked my holidays to be away so I'm gutted that I won't be going to Moscow because I went to Istanbul but I missed it last season as well because we had our cup final so I couldn't go."
